Freedom of expression.

Human or fundamental rights are the conditions that all humans have by virtue of being human and that perform a vital function for integral development.

Freedom of expression.

After World War II, the countries created an organization to defend those rights (UN).

One of those rights is: The freedom of expression

Freedom of expression.

Freedom of expression is a fundamental right or a human right, as stated in Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948, and the constitutions of democratic systems, so indicate.

Freedom of expression.

From it comes the freedom of the press also called press freedom. The right to freedom of expression is defined as a medium for the free dissemination of ideas, and so was conceived during the Enlightenment period.

Freedom of expression.

For philosophers like Montesquieu, Voltaire and Rousseau the possibility of dissent promotes the advancement of the arts and sciences and genuine political participation.

Freedom of expression.

It was one of the pillars of the War of Independence of the United States (First Amendment) and the French Revolution.

Freedom of expression.

In Article 19 of the "Universal Declaration of Human Rights," reads: "Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression: this right includes freedom to not hold opinions, and to investigate receive information and ideas, and impart, regardless of frontiers, by any means of expression. "

Freedom of expression.

An example of the violation of this right is the current situation of China. The people of China are politically repressed by the communist dictatorship in which they live. The political threat of force does not allow free expression or claim their human rights

Freedom of expression

Excessive use of force by the Spanish police and plans to strengthen repressive legislation are a clear sign of the determination of the Spanish government to quell peaceful protests .

Freedom of expression

Amnesty International’s report on Spain states that the right to protest is threatened as it is shown by police abuses against demonstrators, lack of accountability for these abuses and the determination of the Spanish authorities to strengthen repressive legislation .

Freedom of expression

Nevertheless, since the economic and financial crisis has hit Spain , loss of jobs, austerity measures and what is perceived as a lack of transparency in decision -making have brought thousands of people out into the streets to express their protest.

Freedom of expression

In 2012 there were almost 15,000 demonstrations across Spain : about 40 per day. In 2013 there were only 4,500 in Madrid : an increase of a thousand over the previous year .

Freedom of expression

As the government itself has acknowledged , violence was used only less than one percent during the protests.

Freedom of expression FOR EXAMPLE:María who was fined 1,000 euros for protesting on budget cuts, told Amnesty International: "They want to end the leadership of social movements, so they are looking for spokespeople. I'm still going to demonstrations and other activities. They said we would pay the fine jointly, but there is much fear because most people cannot cope with the fines. "

Freedom of expression

The European Court of Human Rights has stated that freedom of participating in a peaceful assembly is of such importance that the participants will not be penalized unless they commit a crime.
