A big part of the new training is allowing professional
staff the time to sit down together and really discuss girls’
participation and issues around it in their school year.

The inspirational meetings with the trainers allowed
us to address the development needs specific to our
school and specific to our young people.
Fit for Girls aims to increase girls’
participation in PE, physical activity
and sport through tailored training
and on-going support for PE staff,
Active Schools coordinators and other
professional staff.
Fit for Girls is part of the sportscotland Active
Girls programme. Active Girls is funded by the
Scottish Government and delivered in partnership
with the Youth Sport Trust, YDance and Youth
Scotland. There are three key initiatives in the
Active Girls programme; Fit for Girls, YDance
Active and Girls on the Move.
Fit for Girls plays a significant part in the
Active Girls programme, providing high quality
opportunities for girls and young women.
Our aim is to help shape and drive future work
in participation in PE, physical activity and sport.
Since the programme began in 2008, evidence shows
that Fit for Girls has been involved in influential work
taking place within schools across Scotland and has
started to create a culture change of physical activity
engagement for adolescent girls in schools.
Building on this learning, Fit for Girls is offering
schools the opportunity to engage with our trainers
on a one to one basis, to allow discussion and
solutions to be individually tailored to meet your
school’s needs.
Getting involved is easy, you will find more
information below or visit us at:
www.sportscotland.org.uk/fitforgirls

What is Fit for Girls?
Step 1 Contact
sportscotland to say
your school wants to
get involved in Active
Girls and the Fit for
Girls programme.
I used to make any excuse not to go to PE, but as I grew older I realised
my health and well-being were important. So I picked Sports Leadership
in 5th year, and Higher PE in 6th year. Now I love PE, I’m better at sports
and my overall fitness has improved.

I found the training very positive. We felt listened to and got
some good experience and advice on where to go. It was a really
professional discussion which enabled us to move forward.
