Fit for Girls aims to increase girls’

participation in PE, physical activity

and sport through tailored training

and on-going support for PE staff,

Active Schools coordinators and other

professional staff.

Fit for Girls is part of the sportscotland Active

Girls programme. Active Girls is funded by the

Scottish Government and delivered in partnership

with the Youth Sport Trust, YDance and Youth

Scotland. There are three key initiatives in the

Active Girls programme; Fit for Girls, YDance

Active and Girls on the Move.

Fit for Girls plays a significant part in the

Active Girls programme, providing high quality

opportunities for girls and young women.

Our aim is to help shape and drive future work

in participation in PE, physical activity and sport.

Since the programme began in 2008, evidence shows

that Fit for Girls has been involved in influential work

taking place within schools across Scotland and has

started to create a culture change of physical activity

engagement for adolescent girls in schools.

Building on this learning, Fit for Girls is offering

schools the opportunity to engage with our trainers

on a one to one basis, to allow discussion and

solutions to be individually tailored to meet your

school’s needs.

Getting involved is easy, you will find more

information below or visit us at:

www.sportscotland.org.uk/fitforgirls

1 2The Fit for Girls trainers are all practicing PE teachers with a wealth of knowledge and experience

in girls’ participation. For more information visit www.sportscotland.org.uk/FFGtrainers

Fit for Girls gives access to bespoke training

to support your future work with girls and their

participation in PE, physical activity and sport.

Planned specifically to address the principles of

Curriculum for Excellence (CFE), Fit for Girls

offers the opportunity to work one to one with

trainers to get girls more engaged.

Schools that sign up are allocated an individual

trainer and funding of up to £1,000 to support

development plans. Other benefits include:

• Bespoke training

• Learning and personal development for both

pupils and professionals

• On-going, specialised support

• Programme support connected to CFE.

What is Fit for Girls?

Step 1 Contact

sportscotland to say

your school wants to

get involved in Active

Girls and the Fit for

Girls programme.

I used to make any excuse not to go to PE, but as I grew older I realised

my health and well-being were important. So I picked Sports Leadership

in 5th year, and Higher PE in 6th year. Now I love PE, I’m better at sports

and my overall fitness has improved.

How to take part in 5 easy steps...

Who are the Fit for Girls trainers?

Step 2 A Fit for Girls trainer

will make contact with your

school to arrange an initial

meeting with the principal

teacher of PE and the Active

Schools coordinator.

Step 3: PE and Active Schools staff

will attend a two hour twilight training

session with a Fit for Girls trainer.

This session is also available to other

professionals who engage with girls

in PE, physical activity and sport.

Step 4: The Fit

for Girls trainer

will write up and

submit an action

plan on behalf

of your school.

Step 5: The Fit

for Girls trainer

will offer a follow

up visit and support.

I found the training very positive. We felt listened to and got

some good experience and advice on where to go. It was a really

professional discussion which enabled us to move forward.
