The supply of food grains to schools in the state is done on quarterly not monthly basis, which was by and large regular.

More than 90% of sample schools served a variety of food such as nutrella, green leaves, dal, potatoes, cabbage, brinjals, pumpkin, eggs and tin fish (in some schools)

None of the sample schools have ever received the cooking cost in advance. Like the food grains the cooking cost is released to the schools on quarterly basis not monthly and that too not in advance.

No gender or caste (not relevant as there is no cast system in Mizo Society) or community discrimination in cooking or serving or seating arrangements in any of the sample schools from all four sample districts

Children are by and large happy However, certain schools in Aizawl and Chaphai Districts could not serve the food regularly during the first quarter

There were no helpers in any of the sample schools as all of them have been promoted as cooks from My 2010.

All cooks were paid a remuneration of Rs.1500/-pm in cash.

All cooks and helpers in the sample schools reported that they do not

get their remuneration on monthly basis.

Discipline Children in all sample schools take meal in a very disciplined and orderly manner.

Other incidental Benefits

a) Poor families are reported to be relieved by the introduction of MDM as they don’t have to spend on the Tiffin of their children.

b) Teachers of all sample schools reported that children become

more active with the serving of MDM.
