EAST MEETS WEST

ART IS THE FOOD FOR THE SOuL.

Whether in the East or the West for now more that centuries, and more than 5000 years in Chinese culture and about 17 000 years in Europe if we consider the Lascaux grottos as an example, art has been at the center of expression.

Potteryand ceramics as paintings on walls have been an important part of culture. Since the very beginning of our civilizations very refined artifacts and frescos have been produced by amazing artists.

As the gallery is now based in Shanghai and Paris, we are glad to put an emphasis on this eternal dialogue. Eastern artists, as the young chinese artists Yang Yongliang, are invited to reflect upon our modern civilization and Western artists, as young portuguese Vhils aka Alexandre Farto, to come to China throgh the gallery residency program and witness the changes chinese society is going through. Through the eyes of these two artists, it is our contemporary world, from the soul to the buildings, that they are witnessing.

Vhils came in 2012 for a few months to Shanghai and emerged himslef into the culture, working on the layers of this amazing city, going deep to the soul of what makes it essential : its inhabitants.

As an artist who links tradition art and modern technology, Yang Yongliang pays, in the “Bowl of Taipei” series, a special tribute to these roots of Chinese art.In this series art becomes a symbol for the everlasting food for the soul.
