Dear Readers,
It is my pleasure to wish the Department of Management
Studies who have released their newsletter
“Waves – A Step Ahead of Time”; Volume 3 Issue 1.
This newsletter provides a glimpse into the various
activities conducted by the Department. Besides, Waves
also portrays the achievements of our faculty and
students in fields of educational excellence and research.
The faculty and students of the Department of
Management Studies deserve rich appreciation for this
effort. MVJCE has played a cascading role in the career
and personality of enumerable students who have
brought laurels to the College, State and Country.
I wish them all the success in their endeavors.

Dear Readers,
I am extremely delighted to release this issue of “Waves – A
Step Ahead of Time” from the Department of Management
Studies. This newsletter gives an indication of the activities
conducted by the Department, besides it also showcases the
achievements and aspirations of our faculty and students.
The accomplishments achieved by the Department of
Management Studies reflect the commitment of the faculty to
quality education. It is great to find a considerable number of
winners and participants in various inter collegiate events which
certainly prove that our faculty and students are adequately equipped and possess the
necessary skill-sets to bring such laurels to the institution.
We hope to continue showcasing the highlights and news in our department through the newsletter regularly.

Department of Management Studies, MVJ College of Engineering conducted a Seminar on 21st
May, 2013 under the active leadership of Dr. Noor Firdoos Jahan. Dr. Shagufta Showkat
co-ordinated the event. The topic for the day was “Current Industry Trends and Employability
Skills”. The eminent speaker Mr. Atul Bengeri, Industry Manager, World Ahead Group, Intel,
an expert with an MBA from Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies (SIMS), Pune, and.
M.S in Software Systems from Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS). He has over
13 years of extensive experience in handling multiple projects in the capacity of Consultant &
Project Manager and wide ranging experience in Project Consultancy, Implementation,
Customer Relationship Management, Business Process Reengineering (BPR) and Sales &
Marketing Activities. He has exposure in the US, Europe, Middle East and Asia Pacific
Markets. The Seminar aimed to create a deeper understanding of current trends in the
management and technology and how the youth have to be equipped with skills to take
advantage of these trends in management. The Seminar began with how technology is
changing the lives of the people. As technology advances and globalization accelerates the
pace of change, today’s youth must rethink their organizational roles. In order to stay ahead of
the global competition, it is important for us to learn the new imperatives of the industry trends
to be ahead. Every organization can only maintain its competitive edge when it is devoted
towards excellence and thereafter success follows and this can be achieved only when the
labour market has the employability skills.
The Seminar reached new levels of intellectual heights,
when Mr. Atul Bengeri shared his knowledge about
Human Computer Interface and Perception Computing,
Cloud Computing and Telephone and the Audio
entertainment evolution. He also spoke about the current
and future trends in technology .
Faculty along with students protruded equal enthusiasm
and remained an active audience. The oratory and
analytical skills of the speaker spoke about his persona
and intellect. The discussions and the question and
answer rounds were worthwhile. The ambience
surmounted the greatness of high intellectual notes.

The Department of MBA, MVJCE, organized an industrial visit to V.S.T Tillers Tractors Ltd
(VTTL) for the students of MBA 1st semester on 30th of January, 2013 under the active
leadership of Professor Mr. B.J. Prasad and assisted by Professor Mrs. H.Ramya.
Mr.B.G.Kodandaram, DGM-HRM welcomed the students which was then followed by a
detailed explanation of the manufacturing unit, training unit, the products along with different
models, their working and usefulness.
Students were taken to the manufacturing department,
where the guides explained the detail sketch about the
working and usefulness of the products.. The students
were then taken to the training department, where the
dealers of V.S.T. Tillers and Tractors ltd are trained
about usage of the various parts, how to assemble them
and repair the same if the customers approach the
dealers and shared the pamphlets of the company about
the various products they are manufacturing and its uses
The students had an excellent learning experience and
gained more understanding on the manufacturing and marketing process in a manufacturing
organization.
Industrial Visit to V.S.T Tillers Tractors Ltd
The Department of MBA, MVJCE, organised an industrial visit to Karnataka Soaps and
Detergents Ltd. for the students of MBA 2nd semester on 12th of March, 2013 under the active
leadership of Prof. Mr. C. Bhoopathi and assisted by Prof. Avik Mandal.
The students were led around the company units
by Mr.Balchandra from the R&D department. He
imparted information about the HR, Finance and
Marketing departments of the company along with
information on procurement of raw materials,
quality control, new product development,
manufacturing process, products and sales and
distribution.
The students had the pleasure to
visit the company and gain
enormous knowledge practically
and were overwhelmed with

The Department of MBA, MVJCE, organized a guest lecture on “Current Trends in Marketing
in Different Industries” for the students of MBA on 18th March 2013 under the active
leadership of HOD, Dr Noor Firdoos Jahan. The speaker for the day was Mr.Adithya Karthik,
Senior Manager, Invensys. The program was supported by Dr. Shagufta Showkat .
The session was very interactive. The speaker briefed the audience about marketing analytics,
digital footprint, silo marketing, changes in marketing, consumer expectations, customer
experiences, how a company can achieve excellence in one specific area and diversification.
Advertising videos of some companies like Coca Cola were displayed to show how marketing
strategies are made to reduce the promotion cost and at the same time
increase sales. The students benefitted from this lecture as the subject
discussed was very informative and a part of their academics and
learning, but here earning was very jovial as some videos were used for
the better understanding of students.
Guest Lecture on ”Current Trends in Marketing in Different Industries”
Guest Lecture on “Traditional Marketing – Opportunities and Pitfalls”
The Department of MBA, MVJCE, organized a guest lecture on “Traditional Marketing –
Opportunities and Pitfalls” for the students of MBA 23rd March, 2013 under the active
leadership of Professor Ms Bala R. The speaker for the day was Mr AJ Anto, Senior Software
Engineer, Test, Microsoft India, Bangalore. The lecture began on an interesting note with a
discussion on traditional marketing strategies, and how internet marketing can overcome its
disadvantages. The concept of “Intent Based Targeting” was discussed and how demographic
targeting by Google, psychographic targeting by Facebook and professional targeting by
LinkedIn are used in Internet marketing was brilliantly explained to audience with examples.
Other concepts such as PPC (Pay per Click), SMO (Social Media Optimization) and SEO
(Search Engine Optimization) were also discussed. Mr AJ Anto ended his speech with an
emphasis on importance of blog creation by students which can help them market themselves
in today’s highly competitive professional world. Also he mentioned the advantages of
accounts in sites like LinkedIn and Twitter which can help people professionally. The session
ended with vote of thanks by Ms Lasitha, MBA 1st year student and the presentation of a
memento to Mr. AJ Anto as a token of appreciation and gratitude from the Department of
MBA.

WAVES -A step ahead of time DEPARTMENT OF MANGEMENT STUDIES
A Collage Competition was conducted on the 25th of May
2013, with the objective to inculcate creative thinking,
improve teamwork and to help the students understand the
current issues in the business world. Seven teams participated
in the competition, the theme of which was ‘Ethics in Sports’.
The contest was judged by Dr. Satish Babu, H.O.D of Bio
Tech Department of MVJCE. All teams participated
enthusiastically and made this competition a grand success.
Good team work was seen among all teams and all members of
each team co-operated and contributed with innovative and
creative ideas. Team NIYUT comprising of Lasitha.S,
Bindhu.V won competition.

Team Building Competition
A Team Building Competition was conducted on the 25th of May 2013,
with the objective to develop team spirit among students and make the
students aware of the various challenges involved in team work.
Four teams comprising of three members each participated in the competi-
tion, which comprised of three rounds namely, sneak a peek, crossword
and the picture round.
The contest was judged by Ms. Neha Minocha, HR Manager, MVJCE, and
Ms. Pooja Sharma, Placement Officer, MVJCE. Team Aritra won the
Team Building Competition, the overall event was successfully concluded
under the guidance of Dr. Noor Jahan Firdoos and Dr. Shagufta Showkat

A Business Quiz was conducted on the 31st of May 2013,
with the objective to inculcate competitive spirit amongst
students and to keep them abreast with the current affairs of
the business world.
Four teams participated in the competition, which comprised
of four rounds namely, general, audio visual, logo and rapid
fire rounds.
Team Aryan won the quiz Competition, the overall event was
successfully concluded under the guidance of Dr. Noor
Firdoos Jahan
