The process of actively and creatively solving problems.
This process can be used with everyday life.
You Start with Brainstorm
Defer Judgment!
Why? When you’re judging, youconstrict the flow of ideas.
Wild & Crazy is OK!
Why? You’re practicing defer judgment and gaining ideas.
Example: You judge a solar energy startup idea based on it’s cost (too
expensive). You have all ready restricted different avenues for
growing the idea.
Diverge
Strive for quantity! It’s easier to pick great ideas from a bunch!
Work in Groups(4 or less)
Build on Each Other’s Ideas
Yes, ‘and’ instead of ‘but’.
Converge on Ideas
Find something good. No: “Oh That’s good.” Meaningful positives.
Capitalize on the opportunities. Point out the
‘constructors’ of the positives. Eg; “How might we get this
result if we do this?”
The right questions provoke solutions that work with the innovative brain.
Originally, we would say “This idea won’t work because of <issue>.”
Instead, focus on overcoming the
issues.
Phrase issues as questions. “How might we overcome
<issues>?”
With New Thinking, you identify existing problems and come up with new solutions to existing problems.
POINT helps you creatively solve
problems. SWOT is used to collect data.
Focus on Creating Value
Imagine what your customers use, how they use it, what they
worry about, and what they value.
Practice, practice, practice. Soon, you will
see a change in ideation!
Stay Wild and Crazy!
