Scope Changes We’re so glad you appreciate the AC

Two sets may be okay

Three sets from the same author every year or two? Ouch!

Scope Changes We’re so glad you appreciate the AC

Program! No longer in scope for the CIP Program:

Phonics books Repackaged editions Tie-ins

Tie-Ins to Movies, Toys, Etc. One film may

generate dozens of derivative books

TV shows produce even more

Barbie is featured in hundreds of books

Don’t forget various candies and other foods

Scope Changes We’re so glad you appreciate the AC

Program! No longer in scope for the CIP Program:

Phonics books Repackaged editions Tie-ins

No longer in scope for AC treatment Publishers’ reading sets Materials unlikely to be widely acquired for

organized collections

Widely acquired by libraries? Publishers’

readings sets are for classroom use

Some books have a very small audience Local interest Family stories

Good News!

We have our first CIP Partner for juvenile materials

The publishers’ summaries that are so often provided help tremendously, especially on those publishers’ reading sets

A New Initiative

The Policy and Standards Division is looking into adding validation records for AC headings, and considering what those records will look like – including LCC and/or DDC, for example.

Comments or Questions

Parties outside the Library interested in providing input on the validation records initiative are invited to email policy@loc.gov

Questions about the AC Program and our CIP cataloging can be directed to amur@loc.gov
