~ Our Mission Statement ~The Spirit of the Lord is upon us, because the Lord has anointed us

to proclaim: Ecce Agnus Dei - Behold the Lamb of God;Behold the Good News of Jesus Christ.

    OUR SEMINARIAN SHAWN CIESLIK

    FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT

    Dear Parishioners of St. Johns,

I am currently in Guatemala for a nine week Spanish emersionprogram to learn the language and the culture. Since our diocese isgrowing larger and larger each year, it is important for todays newly

ordained priests to minister to the Hispanic communities so that thework of evangelization can strengthen the entire Body of Christ. When I return to the states in August, I will begin my last four yearsof formation at Mundelein seminary.

While I was in high school and college, I studied the automotiveindustry and always had a desire to pursue a career as an automotivetechnician. After college, I worked at a dealership for a short time;after that, I worked for three years in the automotive manufacturingfield for a small private firm as their purchasing manager.

During my early to mid-twenties, I began to experience a deeperand more intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. The more I read

and studied about my Catholic faith, the more it began to transform me, which led to a deeperprayer life and a desire to work in ministry.

I began to inquire about involvement within various ministries in my parish. For three years,I was a catechist in the R.C.I.A Adult Education Program, I taught 7th Grade Religious Educa-tion, and I taught in the 7th and 8th Grade Confirmation Prep Programs. I joined the EucharisticAdoration ministry team. I participated in retreats throughout the Joliet Diocese and attendedworkshops and speaker conferences that were of interest to me. Just prior to making my deci-sion to enter seminary in spring 2007, I co-founded a high school youth ministry group with theParishs Confirmation Lead.

    Sincerely in Christ,

    Shaun Cieslik

This week we celebrate the most important holiday in the 236years since we became a nation, Independence Day.

When we think of what makes us so proud to be Americans, it maynot be the big events that mark the pathways of our nations journey, but perhaps the ideals and values that stand behind our heritage, theliving responses of individuals to those ideals and the Christian idealsupon which they are based as:

One Nation under God,with liberty and justice for all!

The values we cherish as Americans were not won easily. We haveour own dark moments when they did not seem so evident, and even inthe present we have much work to still do to attain them. Life, Liberty,Justice, Peace, Equality, Generosity, Respect . . . all these are valuesthat we cherish as Americans.

As Catholics we know Jesus Christ to be the author of these values, and we also have Faith, Hope and Love as the center of all our values.

I am also very proud of the constant outpouring ofconcern and charity that we have seen here at St. Johnthe Baptist. Our St. Vincent de Paul Society is one of those

ever present miracles that has American and Christian val-ues at the center of its Mission. And there are so manypeople who partner with us in this mission.

We would like to recognize the most recent outpouringof love and generosity in time and generosity that hasbeen given as we host PADS in Sebahar Hall during theirtime here seeking a place of rest as they await their re-turn to St. Isidores Parish in September.

    God bless our Parishioners!

GOD BLESS AMERICA & OUR PARISH

I enjoy learning about my faith and sharing that knowledge with others. Eventually, my loveof God led me to the possibility of serving others as a priest. Many close friends and family con-tinue to support me in discerning the Priesthood. I thank God every day for the many blessingshe provides to me. My deepest desire is that all may come to know Jesus Christ more fully.

Your exemplary use of time, talent, and treasure is a blessing and has been a great inspira-tion to me. Your Christian discipleship is evident of the many gifts and talents cultivated by theHoly Spirit throughout this faith community. I kindly ask you to continue to pray for me, espe-

cially that I remain open to the Holy Spirit at work in my life during this journey toward priest-hood. You all will remain in my daily prayers, and I will continue to pray and reflect upon the re-lationships that I have built here at St. Johns so that I can better serve the diocese of Joliet infuture ministry. The community of St. Johns will always have a special place in my heart.

    Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

The healing of the suffering woman required no words from her; she simplytrusted in the power of Jesus. Even after news came that his child was dead,

Jairus was encouraged by Jesus to have trust. Likewise, when we feel afraid we,

too, must have trust in the Lord It is good that God desires for us, His Stewards;we can be sure of that.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion,

or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of

speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assem-ble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

    First Amendment

In Our First, Most Cherished Liberty, A Statement on Religious Lib-

erty, (go to www.usccb.org for full text) our bishops list and definewith concrete examples the ways our religious liberty is under attack:

    The HHS mandate for contraception, sterilization, and abortion-inducing drugs;

    State immigration laws; Altering Church structure and governance;

    Christian students on campus;

    Catholic foster care and adoption services; Discrimination against small church congregations;

    Discrimination against Catholic humanitarian services

The bishops ask nothing more than that our God-given right to religious liberty be respected . . .

nothing less than that the Constitution and laws of the United States, which recognize that right, be

respected. To that end, Catholics nationwide are participating in the Fortnight for Freedom, a14-day period of prayer, penance, education, and action in defense of religious freedom, which cul-

minates this Wednesday, Independence Day. At noon on July 4, churches across the country-bothCatholic and non-Catholic-will ring their bells in a witness of solidarity. Also on July 4 (at 12:10

p.m. Eastern time), Cardinal Wuerl, Archbishop of Washington, will preside at a nationally-

televised Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington,D.C. Archbishop Chaput, O.F.M. Cap., Archbishop of Philadelphia, home of the Liberty Bell, will

preach the homily. (Find the EWTN channel at www.ewtn.com/channelfinder/)

Here at St. Johns parish, at daily Mass, we are praying the Fortnight for Freedom prayer shown

below. Although the culmination of the FORTNIGHT is this Wednesday, please continue to pray

this prayer daily until our freedom of religion and conscience is again guaranteed in our nation.

Also, in response to the bishops call to prayer, we will pray a Patriotic Rosary for our countrythis Tuesday, July 3, during the Respect Life Rosary time prior to the daily 7:30 a.m. Mass. Be-

cause this Rosary will take an additional 15 minutes, we will begin the prayer at 6:45 a.m. in the

Chapel. Please come. Our prayer and penance in solidarity with our bishops will make a great dif-ference.

    June 21-July 4, 2012

Almighty God, Father of all nations,For freedom You have set us free in Christ Jesus (Gal 5:1).

We praise and bless You for the gift of religious liberty, the foundation of human rights, justice, and the common good.

Grant to our leaders the wisdom to protect and promote our liberties;By Your grace may we have the courage to defend them, for ourselves

and for all those who live in this blessed land.We ask this through the intercession of Mary Immaculate, our patron-

ess,and in the name of Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in the unity of the

Holy Spirit, with whom You live and reign, one God, for ever and ever.

    Amen.

First Friday RosaryPlease join the Knights ofColumbus and the Adora-tion and Pro Life groups inthe recitation of the Rosary

on Friday, July 6, at 7:45p.m. in the Chapel/Church.Everyone is welcome to join in this most won-derful devotion to our Blessed Mother. As ourLady requested in her appearance at Fatima,Portugal, pray the Rosary and join her in liftingour hearts and minds in prayer.

Let us take just a few minutes to join our fellowparishioners in prayerful thanksgiving for all thegifts and blessings we have received. Our Ro-sary is usually followed by Benediction.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) this summer is

conducting a Fortnight for Freedom to begin with the vigil of the feasts ofSt. Thomas More and St. John Fischer and culminate with Independence

Day. The purpose of this effort is to issue a call to defend religious liberty, and to urge the laity to work to protect the First Freedom of the Bill of

Rights. We will be providing prayers over the next three bulletins that can beprayed during June 21 through July 4, 2012. Also, the entire list of prayers

can be found on the St. John the Baptist website, stjohnwinfield.org.

We know prayer can make miracles and we (may have) witnessed it a number of times in our life. The

change in the Communist countries is the best example for that. Today we need freedom to practice

our faith without restrictions of any kind. So let us answer the call of the Church in our country for the

fortnight of prayer. Prayer with penance will be answered immediately. Fr. Thomas Theneth CMI

Day 11: Sunday, July 1, 2012 Prayer for Civic LeadersLet us pray: God our Father, You guide everything in wisdom and love. Accept the prayers we offer

for our nation. In Your goodness, watch over those in authority, so that people everywhere may enjoyfreedom, security, and peace. Through our Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Day 12: Monday, July 2, 2012 Prayer for Our NationLet us pray: O God, Who arranges all things according to a wonderful design, graciously receive theprayers we pour out to You for our country that, through the wisdom of its leaders and the integrity ofits citizens, harmony and justice may be assured and lasting prosperity come with peace. Through

    Christ our Lord. Amen.

Day 13: Tuesday, July 3, 2012 St. Thomas, Apostle, FeastLet us pray: Grant, almighty God, that we may glory in the Feast of the blessed Apostle Thomas, so

that we may always be sustained by his intercession and, believing, may have life in the name of JesusChrist Your son, whom Thomas acknowledged as the Lord. Who lives and reigns with you in the unity

of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Day 14: Wednesday, July 4, 2012 Independence Day Attend Mass & Pray the Prayer of the

Day: God of justice, Father of truth, Who guides creation in wisdom and goodness to fulfillment in Christ YourSon, open our hearts to the truth of His Gospel, that Your peace may rule in our hearts and Your justice guide

our lives. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy

Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
