The Bob de Graaf Award In 2011 I did a research on status symbols. My conclusion was, an award is the biggtest symbol of status. To give my own status a boost I decided to create my own award, the Bob de Graaf Award. To upgrade my status the award needed to be given to a person who already earned some respect. That's why I decided to give this award to Ilse Crawford. Owner of studio Ilse, Curator of Design Academy Eindhoven and Head of the department Man and Well-being at Design Academy Eindhoven.

Status to SurviveIn life the most important thing is surviving. It’s important to keep yourself alive, but also very important to pas on your genes.

In nature there are a lot of examples of behavior to get more food, more sex and more respect. Each of these examples can be linked to some sort of status sybol.

Earning respect is what a status sybol is all about.

HonorHonour or honor (from the Latin word honos, honoris) is the evaluation of a person’s social status as judged by that individual’s com-munity. Accordingly, individuals are assigned worth and stature based on the harmony of their actions, code of honour, and that of the society at large. Honour can be analysed as a relativistic concept, i.e., conflicts between individuals and even cultures arising as a consequence of material circumstance and ambition, rather than fundamental differences in principle. Alternatively, it can be viewed as nativist — that honour is as real to the human condition as love, and likewise derives from the formative personal bonds that establish one’s personal dignity and character.

TrophyThe trophy is a reward for a specific achievement, and usu-ally afterwards serves as proof of merit. They are most often awarded with sporting events. These range from youth sports through professional level ath-letics. Often, the reward of the trophy is not simply in winning it; rather, those who win it cher-ish the legacy that also comes with the trophy. In many sports medals are often given out either instead of or along with trophies, such as: gold medals, silver medals, and bronze medals or commemora-tive medals.

Trophies can take the shape of two-handled cups, bowls, or mugs (all usually engraved); statues of people, animals, and architecture while displaying words, numbers or images. While trophies traditionally have

been made with metal figures, wood columns, and wood bases, in recent years they have been made with plastic figures and marble bases. This is to retain the weight traditionally associ-ated with a quality award and make them more affordable to use as recognition items. Re-cently trophies have also been made using a resin and molds. The Academy Awards Oscar is a trophy with a stylized hu-man; the Hugo Award for sci-ence fiction is a space ship; and the Wimbledon awards for its singles champions are a large loving cup for men and a large silver plate for women.A loving-cup trophy is a com-mon variety of trophy;[citation needed] it is a cup shape, usually on a pedestal, with two or more handles, and is often made from silver or silver plate.Hunting trophies are reminders

of successes from hunting ani-mals, such as an animal’s head mounted to be hung on a wall.Resin trophies come in a vari-ety of sports or even in generic forms. These resin awards are often used for participation awards and can be custom made to include an event logo. These can be custom molded to create a unique trophy for businesses, youth sports organizations, and non profits alike.

Gold has been highly valued in many societies throughout the ages. In keeping with this it has often had a strongly positive symbolic meaning closely connected to the values held in the highest esteem in the society in question. Gold may symbolize power, strength, wealth, warmth, happiness, love, hope, opti-mism, intelligence, justice, balance, perfection, summer, harvest and the sun.Great human achievements are frequently rewarded with gold, in the form of gold medals, golden trophies and other decorations. Winners of athletic events and other graded competitions are usually awarded a gold medal (e.g., the Olympic Games). Many awards such as the Nobel Prize are made from gold as well. Other award statues and prizes are depicted in gold or are gold plated (such as the Acad-emy Awards, the Golden Globe Awards, the Emmy Awards, the Palme d’Or, and the British Academy Film Awards).

A laurel wreath is a circular wreath made of interlocking branches and leaves of the bay laurel (Laurus nobilis, Lauraceae), an aromatic broadleaf evergreen. In Greek mythology, Apollo is represented wear-ing a laurel wreath on his head. In ancient Greece wreaths were awarded to victors, both in athletic com-petitions, including the ancient Olympics made of wild olive-tree known as "kotinos" (κότινος)[1], (sc. at Olympia) and in poetic meets; in Rome they were symbols of martial victory, crowning a successful commander during his triumph. Whereas ancient laurel wreaths are most often depicted as a horseshoe shape, modern versions are usually complete rings. In common modern idiomatic usage it refers to a victory. The expression "resting on one's laurels" refers to someone relying entirely on long-past successes for continued fame or recognition.
