In 2001 MHAS Project promised good quality digital Hearing aids for all who need them.MHAS underestimated the uptake from new and existing users.AFD Audiology service has been providing adult audiology for over 6 years in the West Sussex area.

All referrals are from any GPs in our catchment area.Patients must be 50 and over and have to satisfy set criteria which the GP qualifies.Referrals can be received by letter, fax, or ‘Choose and Book’.

GHABPThe Glasgow Hearing Aid Benefit Profile is a focused questionnaire which gives a set score based on listening situations and disability.At follow up patients then are given the same situation but using the hearing aid enabling the benefit to be calculated.

REM - Real Ear Measurement is the GOLD standard in fitting digital hearing aids.

AFD has over 90 % of aids fitted by this method.

The remainder are either medically contra-indicated or aids that are too powerful to be set using REM.
