BASIC RATIONALE OF TESTING• Involves generalization from behavior sample observed in

the testing situation to the behavior manifested in other non-test situations.• A score helps the examiner predict how the client feels and

acts outside the clinic, how the student achieves in college and how an applicant performs on the job.

TESTING CONDITIONS AND SITUATIONS

• The testing room should be free from distractions.• The needed testing materials should be prepared.•A standard answer sheet should be utilized to

facilitate the test scoring.•Can use computer-assisted administration.

REASONS FOR USING COMPUTERS

• Design individualized test based upon real time feedback during testing.• Interpret test results according to complex decision rules.•Write lengthy and detailed narrative reports• Present test stimuli in an engaging and realistic video formats

by means of multimedia.

ADVANTAGES OF COMPUTERS• Excellent standardization• Individually tailored sequential administration•Precision time response;•Release of human testers for other duties•Patience•Control of bias

DISADVANTAGES•Poor substitute for psychological assessments.•Computerized narrative reports are rarely validated

prior to use.•Computerized clinical psychological interpretations

are assigned.

EXAMINER’S CHARACTERISTICS• Should establish rapport• Uniformity of conditions is essential for comparability of test

results• Should put the examinees at ease by giving word of

encouragement• Clear in giving instructions• Should be sensitive with the needs of the examinees

(disability)•Well-prepared

EXAMINEE’S CHARACTERISTICS• Should refrain from strenuous activities• Should be aware of their responsibilities and requirements in

taking the test• Cooperative

ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS• Responsibility• Competence• Moral and legal standards• Public statements• Confidentiality• Welfare of the consumers• Professional Relationship• Assessment techniques (guard against misuse of test and

interpretation, conclusions, etc.
