What’s new at
The Olde White Church
Love in Action
Greeting Friends in Christ!
I want to thank everyone for the wonderful graduation party and all of your generosity. I feel so loved
by my church family and am so excited to begin this new journey with you as The Reverend Doctor
Holly Norwick!
I am super excited to welcome pastoral intern, Amie K. McCarthy, to the family for the summer. For
those of you who had a chance to experience her first sermon on Sunday, you know we are all in for
such a wonderful treat! She will be preaching and teaching, leading a Bible Study, visiting and so much
more. Please take a moment to connect with her and allow her to strengthen her pastoral skills
through you!
May was a wonderful month full of ministry here at The Olde White Church and I am so excited to see
what the Spirit has next! This month we will be moving through the milestone of the life of a church.
We will kick-off by celebrating the birth of the church through Pentecost; at the same time we will also
celebrate our own 337th birthday here at The Olde White Church! Happy birthday everyone! We will
then celebrate the baptism of the church as we celebrate the baptism of Ellie Monte. Then we
commemorate the confirmation of the church as our four confirmands lead us in a wonderful worship
service on Father’s Day. And finally, we close the journey with the call of the church as we come
together to thank Miss Jill Tavares for her YEARS of service to our children and our church.
The Spirit is alive and well here at The Olde White Church and the reason that God has so much room
to move and shake us is because we are learning to keep our hearts and minds open. Come and see
what God has in store for us next!
“In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray
as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for
words; and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because
He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.” - Romans 8: 26-27
Blessings,
Rev. Dr. Holly

Confirmation
It is with great excitement that our confirmands will be celebrating their confirmation on Sunday, June 18th! Come and celebrate the commencement of their journey, as well as the beginning of their new journey in the congregation. Our confirmands, Emily, Emma, Brian and Ethan have dedicated their time and energy to a very exciting faith journey with me this last year and they are so excited to celebrate their confirmation with you, their church family! All of your love, support and encouragement along the way has really allowed them to grow. The Spirit was present in all of our meetings – mostly at Dunkin’ Donuts, and I have had the distinct honor seeing, with my own eyes, the faith blossom in wonderful ways with in each of their lives. Let the faith of our youth continue to teach us and lead us towards God… “Command and teach these things. Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching. Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you.” -1 Timothy 4:11-14

A STUDY OF HEALING PRAYER The Rev. John Wilson will be leading a four week study on
Healing Prayer beginning Wednesday, June 7, from 1-2 PM
and continuing through the month of June. We will be using
the book, The Healing Light by Agnes Sanford. Copies of the
book may be obtained either from Rev. Wilson or the church
office. She writes:
"If we try to turn on an electric iron and it does not
work, we look to the wiring of the iron, the cord, the plug. We
do not stand in dismay before the iron and cry, 'Oh, electricity,
please come into my iron and make it work!' We realize that
the whole world is full of that power we call electricity, but
only the amount that flows through wiring of the iron will
make the iron work for us.”
"The same principle is true of the creative energy of
God. The whole universe if full of the energy and creative
power of God, but only the amount of it that flows through
our own being will make it work for us,”
"We have often tried to make that creative power flow
through us, saying, 'Oh God, please do this or that...' And
when it has not happened, we have concluded that there is no
use in prayer. God will do whatever he wants. It never occurs
to us that the problem might be the result of a poor
connection."
Rev. Wilson has also agreed to lead a four week evening
session if there is enough interest. Please speak to Rev.
Wilson for more details.

Welcome Amie K. McCarthy!!!! It is with great excitement that we welcome Pastoral
Intern Amie K. McCarthy to The Olde White Church!
Amie will be with us until August 13th. She will be
preaching, leading Bible Study, visiting and so much
more. She is eager to meet each of you, and develop her
skills as a pastor.
A word from Amie:
My path into ministry has been an eventful, yet
amazingly humbling experience. My journey has taken
me to so many amazing places that have deepened my
faith and call into Ministry. I know that my time here at
First Congregational Church, UCC will challenge me to
continue to explore my faith and develop my ministry in
profound ways but also be a supportive environment to
hone my skills. As I prepared to join the congregation
here I found myself filled with so many questions about
how to be true to a congregation I don’t know much
about. Upon arriving, my nerves where quelled as the
congregation so warmly welcomed me this past Sunday.
I am honored to have the opportunity to walk with a
congregation that is as energetic as this one. My heart
was warmed this past Sunday to hear so many people
willing to open themselves up to sharing the joys and
concerns that are present in their lives. As well as
witnessing an amazing graduation celebration for the
Rev. Dr. Holly organized by her loving husband and
Gregg, but supported by the entire congregation with
their gifts of delicious entrées prepared with love.
As I look at my time here I am elated to be offering a
bible study series in which we will contemplate and
discern the hidden angels of the church, as well as
being a pastoral presence to the community.
I look forward to our time together as we grow in
faith and continue to discern our own faith journeys
together. I know this summer will fly by but I will
cherish every moment I have with this congregation.

Thank you to Miss Jill!
Please plan to join us for a Service of Thanks as we
recognize the Retirement of Jill Tavares from her
position as Director of Children and Youth Ministry
here at The Olde White Church. We have been able
to reap the benefits of her time and talents in working
with our children and youth for the last 20 years.
We are celebrating all her many years of service to
our children during worship on Sunday, June 25 with
a reception to follow in her honor.
Please plan to join in the celebration!!
FELLOWSHIP NEWS…. We sure have had some great fellowship time this month
with the May Breakfast and the graduation party for our
graduates.
Added to the pleasure of our fellowship opportunities
was the great food to be enjoyed. Many thanks to
everyone who brought muffins and candy to the May
Breakfast. Our church has a very solid reputation for
always good food and fellowship. Everyone attending
the May Breakfast was more than happy with both.
Now, about the graduation party. Let’s just say that
everyone outdid themselves with the food brought to
share. WOW!!! How great was ALL that food! Thank
you, thank you to everyone.
There were only a couple of Sundays that we had a
“regular” fellowship time but because we all know how
special that time is, many people made sure we were
supplied with good snacks. Thank you to the Wilsons,
the Churches, the Thomases, Marie and Barbara, Jen and
Jamie, Liz and Steve, Bev Toppin, Chris Roy, Jerry
Grota, Louise Slowe, Deb Lotz, Charlene Orton, Lou
Kimball, Deb Desjardins, Gwen Donald and Mary
Finnin.
Thank you,
Sara Lundquist
Soup Ministry
Greetings friends and family of the Old White Church!
Thank you very much for making the first Soup Ministry
an amazing success! I had over 20 soup orders made and
delivered - that is three gallons of soup. I thoroughly
enjoyed the experience of making the soup and
delivering it to you at your home.
This month's soups are chicken tortilla soup - a very bold
flavored Mexican soup or zucchini soup. All orders are
due by Sunday, June 18th and will be delivered on
Tuesday, June 20th. Again thank you very much for the
amazing experience and allowing me into your homes
with my Soup Ministry. You may email me
sschwarzenbach77@gmail.com or call me at 413-387-
2117, or talk to me at church.
Forever Yours in Fellowship
Chef Shaun
STEWARDSHIP NEWS
Let me say a word about the biblical concept of
Stewardship. Back in Jesus' day, a steward was a
manager of someone else's property. A large
landholder would hire a steward to oversee his estate:
hire the workers, pay the bills, and maximize the
income. A good steward was a highly trusted and
respected person. And a steward had to give an
accounting of what he had done with the owner's
(Master's) property.
Speaking of stewardship, Jesus said, " Whoever is
faithful in a very little is faithful also in much; and
whoever is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest
in much. If then you have not been faithful with the
dishonest wealth, who will entrust to you the true
riches? And if you have not been faithful with what
belongs to another, who will give you what is our
own?" (Luke 16:10-13)
The Bible teaches that "The earth is the Lord's and
the fullness thereof; the world and all who dwell
therein...." (Psalm 24) God is the owner; we are his
stewards. God has entrusted us with the management
of his property. And as the parable of the talents
makes clear, that also includes the talents (money) we
have that belongs to him. (See Matthew 25) And we
will be held accountable by God with how well or
how poorly we did with what he entrusted to us.
Deacon John Wilson
