2012 YEARBOOK

Foreword by Wayne Stokes, Chairman

2012 is the sixth year of operations for Northern Forties, and once again we are

proud present another selection of photos which show what Northern Forties

members do best – have FUN. As for last year, we have had to publish two

volumes for this season.

2012 will go down in history as the year of the BIG WASH-OUT. So many events

this season were ruined by torrential rain and flooding. Festival of the Forties.

Morley, Northampton & Lamport Railway, North Yorks MVT, Churnet Valley,

Penmaenmawr, Pickering Showground and our very own Halfpenny Green were

all affected in some way, either being curtailed mid-event or cancelled before

they even started. Some of our members braved mud and mayhem to try to

make it to some events, and some of us ended up getting our kit and equipment

ruined whilst doing so.

Through all of this, and another year of ever-increasing petrol prices, we still put

on a good show to the extent that several event organisers are already inviting

us back for 2013 and even making advance bookings for 2014.

When we kick off the new season for 2013, we will be making some changes

that will affect who can join our group. We have grown to over 130 members,

but not all of these are display/vehicle owners or helpers. We can no longer

support people who join us just to benefit from free entry passes to events so

they can go off to do what they want. Event organisers want displays, and that

is what we will be improving on for next season.

I hope you enjoy this Yearbook, and that it brings back more recent memories of

some of the fun we have had together during 2012.

Moreso than last year, this yearbook has been produced using photos taken by

other members rather than myself. Once again, my thanks go to all of you who

have contributed.

I have tried to make sure that every member is represented. The problem

remains that some members only come to a handful of events, and some of you

– even when you are present – still seem to be particularly camera shy. I’m

getting quite used to asking you all to pose and smile, only to have a handful of

you hide behind others, slink off to the loo, or otherwise make yourselves

scarce. To you, a message: I’ll get YOU next year. You have been warned!!!
