1°) Water’s cycle

Before being in your sink, your shower or your tub, water cross the world under different form : liquid, snow, ice, steam …

To each of those state, some transformations and stages are necessary, and water passes to one another naturally.

Those transformations are not the same ones in each uses of water.

a) In nature

In lakes, or oceans, seas…water first goes underground and help plants to grow up. Then, water evaporates and forms clouds, which are pushed by wind until it rains over. Here we got an example of rain in top of a glacier, and water is transformed in ice, which smelt and go back to the river its first belong to.

It’s called a close cycle.

b) Its treatment

What is it useful for ?

Treatment of water is used to convert waste water into cleaned up water.

How does it work ?

There is pre-treatment then decantation, biologic treatment and clarification. Then water is turned back to its first environment.

2°) Water in everyday life2°) Water in everyday life

Water is present in everything we are doing : agriculture, Water is present in everything we are doing : agriculture, food, hygiene, sports, industry, chemical uses, … etcfood, hygiene, sports, industry, chemical uses, … etc

But our consumption of water is always going higher and But our consumption of water is always going higher and higher, like the fact there is more and more people on higher, like the fact there is more and more people on Earth.Earth.

a) How is water distributed?

Before running off your

tap, water has already gone

through a long trip since its

place of catchment: dozens,

or even hundreds of

kilometres of pipes.

Water is usually pumped from underground water. This stage is call the pumping.

After it is stocked in a reservoir.A metre under our feet a whole network

brings us drinking water. After our use of it, we reject dirty water,

which will be treated and turned over to lakes or rivers.

Drinking water

Repartition of water in the world

b) How is water consumed ?These are the averages of

each sectors most known in everyday life.

Water, in most countries, is usually used by agriculture, with an average of 70%.

Then comes the industry, with 22%.

And, to the end, our own consumption, which relive of 8%, knowing that some people in the world don’t get access to water.

Consummation of water per country

Access to drinking water in the world

See the difference ? The people who are consuming most of water are the richest. But how could poorest countries develop themselves without water ? And how could people survive without drinking water ?

This is the reason why there is a frontier between Northern countries and Southern countries. A frontier that we choose to draw long time ago.

Water is a two in one symbol : it is life, but death too.
