Zen Tangles: Harmony/Unity of Line- Criteria & Objectives

• Students will draw a zen tangle.• Students will use a felt tip marker, a sheet of 9 x 12 in. paper

with a 1 in. border, a ruler, and graphite for the border and some under-drawing.

• Students will draw a 1 in. border around the edge of their paper using a straight edge, the border should be in pencil. Follow the template on the next two slides.

• Students can draw anything (keep it school appropriate), and should not hesitate to include doodles of any kind.

• Students may draw outside of their 7 x 10 in. border to make the edges of their composition vibrate.

• The objective of this lesson is to doodle, explore simple prior knowledge of designs and patterns.

• The secondary objective is to measure and create a border for an artwork.
