T HE EFFECT OF TECHNOLOGY War became faster Heavy firepower
could be moved from place to place at great speeds E.g. Bombers,
Mobile Artillery, Tanks, Motorized Infantry In WWI, Armies moved at
walking speed, in WWII Armies moved at driving speed In WWI,
building trenches makes sense, in WWII anything that was in one
place would soon be blown apart In WWI, all the battles took place
in one area, in WWII, the battlefield was the entire
continent!
Slide 43
B LITZKRIEG Lightning War The Germans were the first to
understand the potential of all this new technology Blitzkrieg
focused on speed, surprise, using lots of weapons together, and
concentrating firepower in one place to overwhelm an enemy
Conversely, the Allies were preparing for WWI all over again They
built trenches, fortifications and spread out their forces
Therefore, in the first battles of the war, the Allies could not
handle the speed and power of the German attacks
