WWII: Germany’s Codes Cracked Speech Encipher
in the Works In a mission codenamed “Delilah”, a handheld, voice communications device has been in development at the Secret Service’s Radio H e a d q u a r t e r s i n Buckinghamshire, England. Looking to electronically encipher speech, Allied researchers have been working tirelessly to create a product for long-distance use overseas. As of yet, the transmissions have been unable to pass military t e s t i n g , b u t l e a d i n g researchers are confident this technology will be perfected before the conclusion of the war. If implemented, this device could
Turingery Spoils German Plans
Although a phys ica l machine has yet to be created, Alan Turing has uncovered a manua l method in which the Lorenz cipher can be b r o k e n . N i c k n a m e d “Turingery”, this process is derived from a code-breaking strategy known as wheel breaking, which a n a l y z e s i m p r i n t imperfections from active cams on the wheels of the G e r m a n e n c r y p t i o n machine. The Allies are now capable of translating the Germans’ encoded messages produced by the SZ40 and SZ42, two of their often used rotor stream cipher machines.
Turing-Welchman Bombe Delivers
Previously unable to decisively decode German messages through their Enigma system, English logician and computer sc ient is t Alan Turing has co l l abo ra t ed e f fo r t s w i th m a t h e m a t i c i a n G o r d o n Welchman in an attempt to alleviate this pressing issue. Serving as a more effective version of the Polish’s creation, The Turing-Welchman bombe is currently an integral part of the Allied attack on Axis cryptology. Now two years since the first installation on March 18, 1940, there are now over 50 in operation throughout the US and Western Europe. Government officials estimate that as many as two hundred could be created to meet the needs of the war.

WWII: Germany Invades Boston Soldiers Fighting
Domestically In a shocking turn of events, Germany and the Axis powers have begun invading the United States within its own territory. Only six months after declaring war with President Roosevelt and the nation, Germany has begun sending troops to their post held in Boston in preparation for a potentially widespread attack on all major cities in the Northeast. Most detrimental to the US m i l i t a r y’ s c h a n c e s o f fending this attack is that they have been completely unaware of such an invasion to be in the works, leaving the military scrambling for soldiers and supplies while an inevitable series of attacks looms ahead.
Emergency Draft Expected
Still crippled from the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese on December 7 t h , t h e m i l i t a r y i s struggling to maintain sufficient soldiers to combat the German forces both domestically and abroad in Western Europe. With over 5 mil l ion soldiers deployed overseas and 200,000 Americans killed in action, the armed forces may need to call upon another military draft. If such is the case, men between 18-45 will await to hear if they are called upon to defend their country. In the meantime, anxious mothers will pray at home for peace.
German Coding Baffles Analysts
As a result of US cryptologists’ inability to create an efficient mechanical machine designed to “crack the German code”, the Allies have continued to use the Polish bomba kryptologiczna. Originally seen as an short term solution to a larger, looming problem, the Polish bombe has had limited effectiveness in translating the cryptic German Enigma. Without the ability to decode secret messages intended for the eyes of Axis powers only, the United States has been unsure of their enemy’s plans for both the immediate, as well as long term future ahead. Analysts argue that without an improved version of the Polish bombe, the US military could inadvertently walk into a war-conceding onslaught.
