ABBOTSFORD January 14, 2014 - Abbotsford City Council gave approval last night for a new bus service that will connect the residents of Abbotsford with Chilliwack, Langley and Metro Vancouver, announced Mayor Bruce Banman today.
Abbotsford needs to plan today for the increase in population forecast for our region, said Banman. Transportation is a key part of that process and it is important we continue to work closely with our partners in other communities to support initiatives like this one.
In addition to supporting local economies, the new bus service will also increase access to regional facilities such as University of the Fraser Valley, Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre, law courts and entertainment facilities. This new service will improve transportation options for a wide variety of residents, including seniors and students. It will
also help in reducing the number of cars on the road, which supports the protection of our fragile Fraser Valley airshed, said Banman.
It is important that we continue to promote green-transportation options for our residents.
The bus service is expected to begin in 2015 and will connect people from Chilliwack to Langleys Carvolth Transit Exchange, which connects Valley residents to TransLink services. FVRD officials will work on determining final fare structures, schedule development and potential bus routes in the coming months.

Ingredients2 tsp vegetable oil600g / 1lb 5 oz thick, good quality pork sausages150g / 5 oz chorizo, cut into serving pieces1 medium onion, sliced1 small chilli, seeds removed, flesh chopped2 fat garlic cloves, finely chopped75ml / 2 fl oz white wine400g / 14oz canned tomatoes, chopped200g / 7oz canned butter beans, or cannellini beans, rinsed and drained2-3 tbsp chopped fresh parsley1 tbsp clear honey
MethodHeat the oil until hot, add the sausages and fry for 4-5 minutes, or until browned but not completely cooked through. Remove from the pan and set aside on a warm plate.Add the chorizo to the empty pan and fry for 3-4 minutes, or until crisp and golden-brown. Remove from the pan and set aside with the pork. Chorizo releases a lot of fat and I prefer to drain this off.Add the onion, chilli to the same pan and fry for 2-3 minutes, or until softened.Add the garlic and the wine then bring the mixture to a simmer until the liquid has reduced in volume by about a quarter.Add the chopped tomatoes and the beans then return the sausages and chorizo to the pan and stir well.Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over a low heat, cover the pan with a lid and cook for at least 45 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened and reduced in volume. If the sauce becomes too dry, add a little more water or wine.Just before serving, stir in the honey and season, to taste. Then serve over plain boiled rice or creamy mash, and sprinkle with parsley.

What follows is an incredible recounting of the ten Boones work with the Dutch underground to hide Jews in a hidden room above the familys watch repair shop and their subsequent internment in a concentration camp. Wrestling with her own emotional scars, Corrie must come to terms with her need to forgive in this grim yet beautiful story of faith and survival.

Over the last ten years the ARC Ensemble (Artists of The Royal Conservatory) has become one of Canadas pre-eminent cultural ambassadors, raising international appreciation of the Royal Conservatory and Canadas rich musical life. Its members are all senior faculty of The Glenn Gould School with guest artists drawn from its most exceptional students and graduates. The ARC Ensemble has performed throughout Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia, and its rst two CDs, On the Threshold of Hope and Right Through the Bone (devoted respectively to the music of Mieczyslaw Weinberg and Julius Rntgen) were both nominated for Grammy Awards in the Best Chamber Music Recording category.
The ARC Ensemble has collaborated with a range of artists: the pianist Leon Fleisher, the novelist Yann Martel, actors Saul Rubinek and R.H.Thompson, and composers Omar Daniel and Vincent Ho. It is playing a leading role in
unearthing repertoire ignored due to political changes or shifts in musical fashion, and its work has received unanimous acclaim from the worlds cultural press. Its concerts and recordings are meticulously researched and assembled with rich supporting materials and are often augmented by lectures on their musical, political and social context, or included as part of larger-themed festivals.
The acclaimed Music in Exile series, which explores the music of composers forced to ee Europe during the 1930s, has been presented to huge critical acclaim in Tel Aviv, New York, London, Budapest, and Toronto. The ensembles recordings enjoy regular airplay on networks around the world and its concerts have been broadcast on CBC Radio, National Public Radio in the US and on public radio throughout Europe.
ARCs most recent release is dedicated to the chamber music of another migr, the Israeli composer Paul Ben-Haim (ne Frankenburger)
who left Germany in 1933. The recording features his Quintet for clarinet and strings and an unpublished Piano Quartet last performed in 1932.
Following performances at Londons Wigmore Hall and Amsterdams Concertgebouw; the premiere of R. Murray Schafers Piano Quintet and concerts at Canadas Stratford Festival, highlights of the ARC Ensembles 2013 / 2014 season include the rst of a three year series at the Bijloke Music Centre in Ghent and performances at the Budapest Spring Festival, the Lincoln Center Festival and a return series at the Stratford Festival, concerts which commemorate the anniversary of the start of WW1.
James Conlon, Music Director of the Los Angeles Opera and the Ravinia Festival, and a major force in the recovery of lost twentieth century repertoire, is the ARC Ensembles Honorary Chairman. The ARC Ensembles Artistic Director is Simon Wynberg.
This duo was formed as a response to great demand for a refreshing and enthusiastic chamber ensemble with a strong dedication to outreach and education.
This ensemble is de ned by passion for performance and love of virtuosic and intimate music.
Jasper Wood, violinCanadian violinist Jasper Wood has established a ourishing reputation as a soloist through his frequent performances with many of North Americas nest orchestras. He has performed under the batons of Gregory Novak, George Cleve, Georg Tintner, Bramwell Tovey, and Miguel Harth-Bedoya.
Jasper has also garnered acclaim for his dazzling performances as a recitalist and chamber musician which have taken him to major cities worldwide.
Outreach and education is an important part of Jasper Woods mandate as an artist, and he enjoys visiting schools and giving masterclasses. He was the Co-Artistic Director of Young Artist Experiences (YAE), an organization which combines studies in sciences, humanities, arts, and social responsibility, in addition to traditional
rigorous training in the practice and performance of the chamber music repertoire.
Jasper Wood has performed on the 1700 Taft Stradivarius from 2004-2006, and the 1820 Pressenda from 2000-2004. He now plays a 1914 Stefano Scarampella violin. Currently residing in Vancouver with his wife Grace and two children, Wood is Associate Professor of violin and chamber music at the University of British Columbia.
Daniel Bolshoy, guitarDaniel Bolshoy is committed to bringing the guitar to the attention of audiences everywhere. He is regularly praised for his friendly and informative spoken introductions, and progressive programming of solo and chamber music. His concert tours take him from prestigious international concert stages to remote villages and house-concerts.
Mr. Bolshoy has performed as a soloist with many orchestras internationally and across Canada. He has performed for many prestigious festivals and among recent orchestral appearances are concertos by Rodrigo, Ponce, Kernis, and Castelnuovo- Tedesco with international orchestras.
Daniel Bolshoy appears on seven commercial CD recordings and his most recent solo CD Soando Caminos (ATMA) is devoted to the works of Spanish composer Eduardo Sainz de la Maza.
Mr. Bolshoy has recently been appointed to the position of head of the guitar division at the University of British Columbia School of Music. He is also the head of the guitar department at the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra School of Music where he gladly welcomes everyone.

SPOTLIGHTONBUSINESS
NEGOTIATING AN OFFER I employ all my skills and experience to get my clients what they want, what they need, and what is good value. This process often involves a number of meetings, lots of phone calls and faxes, and some creative bargain-ing! This is what makes an experienced and talented realtor stand out from the rest. During the period of time after an offer is accepted, but before it becomes a firm sale, I work very closely with my client, buyer or seller, to see that all the details and conditions of the con-tract are attended to.
BUYER MANAGEMENT On a daily basis I look for suitable properties for my buyers. I search with my computer programs, as well as manually. I discuss what I find with them on the phone, or fax or email the info. I set up showings, and we go shop-ping! Buyers will often need to meet up again, to further discuss the details, as well as their hopes and fears, before we submit an offer. I also aid my buyers in getting pre-approved for a mortgage, and eventually obtaining that mortgage.
NEW LISTINGS After the market analysis, when a person has decided that they do want to list at this time, I fill out all the necessary forms and submit them to the Real Estate Board. I gather as much information as possible about the property to better market it to the qualified buyers - room measurements, lot measurements, zoning, construction information, just about all information available. This information is also sent to the board so that it is available on MLS. I take a number of digital photos of the property (house, yard, view, any out-buildings, etc), I place a lockbox or make other access arrangements with the seller, and I place at least one of my large, professionally manufactured signs in the most visible places on the property.
CONTACTSFor all the homeowners that list with me, or go on the MLS system, there is a fair amount of work to be done before LISTING MANAGEMENT. During a listing, I will answer calls, emails, or fax information to those with questions about the property. We schedule showings, and gather feedback from past showings. My relationship with my clients is the most important part of my business, so I make it a priority to make time for all of my clients, and to be easy to reach during any time of the week.
MARKETING THE NEW LISTINGI give the pictures and basic information for the new listing to the Real Estate Weekly or Review for their next paper. I create a high-tech email ad that is sent to all the realtors in the Fraser Valley, telling them about the property and encouraging them to show it. I put the listing on my website, complete with an unlimited number of pictures: anywhere from 10 to 50! I then put the house on the market. Realtors rely on their contacts for most of their business - referrals, reputation, repeat customers, and image in the community is of utmost importance in generating any business at all. Maintaining this positive visibility and keeping up contact with such a large number of people requires a lot of time, devotion, and genuine interest. But its worth it. The more extensive my contacts, the better service Im able to offer my clients because the more likely it is that I will be able to find them the perfect buyer or the perfect home in as little time as possible.
COMPARATIVE MARKETANALYSIS I am happy to offer my contacts or anyone else a free comparative market analysis at any time they ask! This means that if youre just curious about how your equity is affected by current market conditions, if youre starting to consider selling your home, or if youre serious about selling now - Ill be your number one resource for real estate information! Also, I keep track of who is just thinking about moving, because if or when I know of a serious buyer for their home, it may provide an opportunity to put two people together and considerably streamline the buying and selling process for both parties. This is the kind of exceptional service that cant be offered by realtors with limited contacts. Above all, however, it is important to remember that I pride myself on being no-pressure! Are you embarrassed by PDAs?Some people might feel embarrassed about participating in PDAs and some people might even feel uncomfortable about witnessing PDAs. You might see them on the street, in the mall, in the grocery store, in the park, or even in your doctors waiting room. They are happening everywhere and Public Displays of Affection tend to become more popular in the spring, when love is in the air. There is nothing to be ashamed of because PDAs are a positive sign of a loving relationship. Of course, as with anything in life that is good for you, there are some common codes of conduct. Public displays of affection should not be mistaken for behind closed-door bedroom adult activities. There is a time and place for everything and the public domain is probably not the most appropriate place for adult foreplay. However, more romantic gestures such as; affection hugs, tender kisses, holding hands, and opening doors for your sweetheart, are not only good for your relationship, they are good for the community. Expressions of love can mend cultural separations and link generations together because love is the one common tie that gets stronger with use.
PDAs are cool and contagiousDoes it melt your heart when you see a senior couple strolling hand-in-hand down the sidewalk? Does it make you ponder about the long path of love that this cute old couple has followed? Do you smile when you witness a younger couple embraced in love? Do you feel more loving when you see these expressions of love? Do PDAs give you hope for the future? We need more love in the world. If public displays of affection can contribute more love, then we need to promote PDAs as being cool because the cool things in life are shared, posted, and liked. PDAs are cool because they make us feel good and things that make us feel good become contagious. Trendsetters and community leaders can lead the way by loving by example and the willing public can spread the love with their own public displays of affection. Do not feel embarrassed or ashamed about displaying love. If you feel shy, then start small with an innocent peck on the cheek. Soon you will be smiling, laughing, and embracing your loving partner in a busy public place. As love catches on, the streets will be lled with happy handholding couples. If someone asks whats on in Abbotsford you can proudly say that love is on!
