What do we mean by outcomes? What do we mean by outcomes?
• “…the impact or end result of services on a person’s life…” (Glendinning et al, 2006)
• This is determined by the aspirations, goals
and priorities of the individual.
Why are outcomes important? Why are outcomes important?
• Helps demonstrate progress and change
• Improves engagement and focus of work
• Assists in appropriate goal setting

individual and those viewed as a priority by the practitioner

Distinction between outputs and Distinction between outputs and outcomesoutcomes
• Service-led approaches tend to measure progress or success in terms of outputs
e.g. number of people who…• How long things took
• Outcomes = the difference made.
Where did we start?Where did we start?
• Getting it Right in Angus• Implementation of integrated assessment• Shift from task centred care planning to
outcome focused child’s planning (outputs to outcomes)
• Need for a tool to support SHANARRI based outcomes focused child’s planning across partners
What we did
• Established a partnership with practitioners from children’s and adult’s services
• Reviewed range of outcome measurements tools
• Used SHANARRI indicators as a starting point
