NEW DELHI, July 21:

CBI today informed a spe-cial court that “despitereminders”, no decision hasbeen taken yet by the compe-tent authority on the issue ofgrant of sanction to prosecutetwo public servants for theiralleged involvement in twoseparate cases in the coal blockallocation scam.

The agency informedSpecial CBI Judge BharatParashar that in accordancewith the court’s earlier order, itsent the entire relevant recordsof the case, along with state-ments of witnesses, to the com-petent authority way back inFebruary but no decision hasbeen taken on the issue.

The two public servantsagainst whom sanction isawaited are — K S Kropha,then Joint Secretary in CoalMinistry, and K C Samaria,then director in Coal Allocationsection of the ministry.

“It has been submitted (byCBI) that despite reminder, nodecision on the said request forconsidering according of sanc-tion has been taken by the com-petent authority,” the courtnoted.

During the hearing, CBIsaid that as over five monthshave elapsed since recordswere sent to the competentauthority, it should be deemedthat sanction has been granted.

“Senior public prosecutorsays as the period of fivemonths have elapsed since therecords were sent to competentauthority for according of sanc-

tion, so this court should con-clude that the sanction for pros-ecution of public servants, asasked for, is deemed to havebeen granted,” the judge saidand fixed the matter for consid-eration tomorrow.

CBI also filed final reportof its further investigation car-ried out in both the cases.

The court had earlierrefused to accept closurereports filed by CBI in two sep-arate cases lodged against twofirms, JLD Yavatmal EnergyLtd and JAS Infrastructure andPower Ltd, now known as JASInfrastructure Capital Pvt Ltd,and others.(PTI)

No OROP forparamilitary forces: Govt

NEW DELHI, July 21:

Government today said it is not formulating any policy forimplementing ‘One Rank One Pension Scheme’ for paramilitaryforces.

The principle of OROP for the Armed Forces has been accept-ed by the Government, Minister of State for Defence Rao InderjitSingh said in a written reply in Rajya Sabha.

He added that the modalities for implementation were dis-cussed with various stakeholders and are presently under consider-ation of the Government.

It will be implemented once the modalities are approved by theGovernment, he said.

On a question whether the Government is formulating any pol-icy for implementing this scheme for paramilitary forces also, hesaid, “No”.

The reply comes in the backdrop of the ongoing agitation bythe ex-servicemen community seeking implementation of thelong-pending OROP.

A section of the paramilitary forces’ personnel have also start-ed demanding OROP. (PTI)
