We need to think as one thing, not two (thus it‟s time to rename FCIB as
Faculty of Creative Enterprise) more innovative ways of thinking that rise
above the limitations of old “which half are we?” structural solutions
Comms practice can be defined broadly as storytelling / narrative in a
business / organisational context
Research shows broad consensus on the tools that will equip comms
grads as organisational storytellers / communicators. An “industry std” is
largely agreed in NZ, Australia, UK – seen in the strong guidance put forward
by the influential “Global Alliance” of Communication Mgt assocations
this consensus defines a clear core of comms curriculum; the BC has a
few, but not too many, gaps to fill
Solutions to the above can readily be found within the faculty right now –
multiple possible combinations of courses (“packages”) which all degrees
could take advantage of
Priority #1 therefore = securing the opportunity of interdisciplinarityin a
FCIB / Fac of Creative Enterprise context (an opportunity for real
distinctiveness for our grads) through working with other disciplines to enable
students to specialise to enhance their major. This solution for Comms may
also work for other degrees: up for discussion.
