INTRODUCTIOII
This Guida has been produoed for users end potential users of the UIRSaeriea. Xts & ie to aid the identification of queationa within therelevant queetionnairee of the 1980 aod 1984 aurveya without the need forreading exheuatively through the queetionnalme. It bee baen aseumed thatthe aain interest will be in questions whiob are in both the 1980 end 1984eurveya (repeated questions) and in the new queationa in the 1984 ~vey -the 1980 questionnaires having been publioly availabla for several yeara. The Guide therefore oaite 1980 questions not repeated in 1984.
The quaations are listed under thirteen topio headings “whioh roughlyindioate the topics of the 1984 quastionneires in queetion eequence. Theseheadings are Meted below, bafora the detailed entries.
Within each detailed entry the following information lo given:
i) an abbreviated form of the actual questionii) questim nuaber references for the 1984 surveyiii) question nuaber references (in bold) of identioal or broadly
similar questions in the 1980 survey.
The letter M aignif lea the (prhery) Management queetionnaim ~ W the(pr~y) Worker Representative questionnaires (nnual end non-manual) andP the Production or Works Mnager questionnaire(fortha 1984 survey only). For raaaona of simplicity the ~ondary Ma8ag~nt and Seoondary WorkerRepreaentativa queationnairee (1980 survey only) have not been included.
Although in met oasee question wording ma unchanged between the twosurveys, there are soae caaee where ohangea wre mede. The listing ofquestion reference numbara for 1980 end 1984 Is an Indication that data 10available froa both surveys on the phenomenon Indicated; it doea not implythat the data from the two eurveya are strictly comparable, al~i in=Y Oesea this will be ao. The eurvey questionnaires themeelvea shouldalways be oonsulted for the precise wrding end context of individualquestion items.
