MaIN ENgINE A 7S90ME-C10.5 fromMAN Diesel & Turbo – ahighly efficient, economical7-cylinder diesel engine withelectronic, emission-reducingvalve control, providing anoutput of 34,224 kW(around 46,530 hp). Also:five auxiliary engines witha total output of 21,270 kW(28,920 hp).

LaNDSIDE SHORE CONNECTIONAll ships of the “Valparaíso Express”class are prepared for an environ-mentally friendly landside shore connection – the auxiliary diesels on board can then be switched off in port. A special container will be provided at the stern.

TWIN ISLaNDThe separation of superstructureand engine room improvesthe stability and providesmore loading capacity whilemaintaining visibility.

PROPuLSIONThe five-blade propeller can

accelerate the ship to speedsof up to 21 knots – during slowsteaming the vessel sails much

slower. The range is around30,000 nautical miles(around 55,000 km).

TaNKSSituated inboard with nocontact to the outer shell, the tanks hold a total of10,000 cubic meters offuel, in particular MDO(Marine Diesel Oil for Emission Control Areas).

FREQuENCY CONTROLLED PuMPSThese increase energy savings at lower speeds.

At a glance: the most important featuresof the five new 10,500-TEU ships Hapag-Lloyd will be bringing into operation as of fall 2016

DaNgEROuS gOODS On principle, all hatchesare prepared to carry thisspecial kind of cargo – providing more flexibilityduring loading.

NEW LaSHINg aND LOaDINg SYSTEMThe new system means there are now up to four hatchcovers – instead of the usual three. This providesgreater flexibility during loading and unloading. Also: thelashing bridges are now three-tiered (container layers).

bOW THRuSTERThe thruster with around2,500 kW (circa 3,400 hp) facilitates manoeuvers in narrowwaterways like port basins.

OPTIMIzED SHIP’S HuLLOptimized for special loading cases and speed profiles in South American trade lanes.

SLOTS FOR REFRIgERaTED CONTaINERSA total of 2,100 sockets – of whicharound 1,250 are above and 850 arebelow deck – make these ships particularly suited to the transport ofperishable goods like fruit, vegetables, meat or pharmaceutical products.

OuT-OF-gaugE CaRgOOversized cargo that does notfit into a container is oftenstored below deck.
