President’s Message
By: Randy Cleaver, PE VFC President
Welcome to the 2012-2013 chapter year for PSPE Valley Forge Chapter. As president, it will be
a pleasure and an honor to serve the chapter during this year. Along with the Board of
Directors, we are planning many interesting venues. In addition to monthly chapter meetings
with technical presentations, there will be facility tours and social events including a day at the
races and a golf outing. For September Chapter meeting we have an excellent speaker, Brookes
Britcher Jr, PE. Brookes will speak on the latest technology in food processing designs while
meeting new legislation. Learn how the Food Safety Modernization Act of 2011 will affect
engineering and equipment design. Hope you will join us on September 18, 2012.
As we move forward into 2013 and beyond the growth of our economy is very important. At the
heart of this growth is engineering of all disciplines. For engineering pumps new technology
through the veins of our economy to produce new products, which in turn increases the job
market. Recently NASA landed a vehicle on Mars. Needless to say this was a fantastic marvel of
engineering. A feat only an engineer could understand the victory of this success. Another news
worthy story is that of General Motors. More than a year ago, GM was staring at bankruptcy.
Today, GM is a profitable company. Although the government and re-organization gave the
company the adrenalin to full fill the success dream, it was the engineer that designed and
manufactured an auto to compete in a very competitive market. Within a few months the US
will elect a president as a leader for our future. It is important that this leadership focus on
technology which will balance the demand for economic growth. What is most important for
you as an engineer to express your opinion by voting.
