The Award in Education and Training (Level 3)

Formerly known as PTTLS, theAward in Education and Trainingis a short course to give thecandidate an introduction toteaching and explores roles andresponsibilities associated withthe teaching role.

Course OverviewThe award is suitable for those who work, or intend to work, as: • Teachers in adult and community education• Teachers or trainers in the voluntary sector• Training personnel in commerce, industry, the public sector or HM Forces• Technicians and support staff in further and adult education

Duration1 week.

How Will I Learn?There will be study time at home priorto the course commencement and thecourse itself will include a variety ofmethods, from a taught session togroup work activities, a presentationand microteaching. A reflective journalmust be kept to monitor your ownprogress.

How Will I Be AssessedThe programme has three major writtenassignments, where learners have todemonstrate the progress madethroughout the course.All work presented by candidates mustbe word-processed.A microteaching activity is also assessedwhere candidates will demonstrate he ability to put theories into practice.Oral and written feedback will be given.Each assessment will be graded Passor Refer.The assignments are marked internallyand quality assurance is provided byDarlington College and monitored byNCFE external verification to ensure that national standards are maintained.

Course OverviewThe planning and delivering of sessionsincluding engaging and motivatinglearners and establishing ground ruleswithin a learning environment is covered.It explores the different assessmentmethods and the need for recordkeeping. The delivery of an observedmicro-teaching session or an assessedpractice in a real work environment is a requirement of this qualification.
