The Award in Education and Training (Level 3) Formerly known as PTTLS, the Award in Education and Training is a short course to give the candidate an introduction to teaching and explores roles and responsibilities associated with the teaching role. Course Overview The award is suitable for those who work, or intend to work, as: • Teachers in adult and community education • Teachers or trainers in the voluntary sector • Training personnel in commerce, industry, the public sector or HM Forces • Technicians and support staff in further and adult education Duration 1 week. How Will I Learn? There will be study time at home prior to the course commencement and the course itself will include a variety of methods, from a taught session to group work activities, a presentation and microteaching. A reflective journal must be kept to monitor your own progress. How Will I Be Assessed The programme has three major written assignments, where learners have to demonstrate the progress made throughout the course. All work presented by candidates must be word-processed. A microteaching activity is also assessed where candidates will demonstrate he ability to put theories into practice. Oral and written feedback will be given. Each assessment will be graded Pass or Refer. The assignments are marked internally and quality assurance is provided by Darlington College and monitored by NCFE external verification to ensure that national standards are maintained. Course Overview The planning and delivering of sessions including engaging and motivating learners and establishing ground rules within a learning environment is covered. It explores the different assessment methods and the need for record keeping. The delivery of an observed micro-teaching session or an assessed practice in a real work environment is a requirement of this qualification.
