The Materials
•Each table represents a tribe.•The name of your tribe is indicated on the flag.•I am the chief of these islands.•On your island is a flag, a crayon, and 3 tokens. •Materials you will be using to answer the challenges are found on the shelves or on the back tables.
•This is the basket of challenges from which your tribe be choosing. You will be earning tokens and possibly losing tokens based on the challenges you choose.•These are the chimes. When you hear them you are to stop, look and listen.•The tribe with the most tokens at the end of the game gets to choose whether they want prizes from the treasure chest or the black pot.
How to Play
•Each tribe will be given its first challenge. Do not look at it until the chimes sound.•Each tribe will work together to fulfill the challenge. When you are ready and all tribal members are seated at the island, raise your “flag” and I will come to hear your answer.•If you are correct, your tribe gets a token. You will then mark the outside of that challenge with your tribal color and put it in the basket and choose the next challenge. With some challenges, you may lose a token.
•Play will continue until the chimes ring to signal the end of the game.•The tokens will be counted and the survivors declared.•The winners will choose either the treasure chest or the black pot for the prizes. The tribe must agree on their choice within 20 seconds. They will then be given another 20 seconds to choose their prize.
Rules
•Only one book (this includes encyclopedias and dictionaries) per team can be taken from the shelf at one time. The spot must be marked with a shelf marker.•The book must be returned to the shelf before the tribe can read the next challenge.•Only one computer per team can be used at one time.•All members must be seated with their flag raised before I will hear their answer.
•The chimes signal that I have something to tell them (and remember I am the chief of these islands).•When members leave their island, they leave only what was on the island when they arrived.•Be sure to use quiet voices, as you don’t want to tip off the other tribes when you have an answer.•Of course, running results in the tribe losing a token.
Good Luck and may you all be...

Dear Detectives, You have a very important job today. We have several missing stuffed animals in the media center. Your job is to find out what animal you need to look for and then help us locate the missing stuffed animal. In your envelopes, you will find a book that is wrapped up. Do not unwrap the book. What is your book about? What animal do you think the book is mainly about? What animal will you be searching for? Now, open your book to the table of contents and answer the questions. You are to write your answers on the sheet. Turn in your answers to me, Detective Finnegan. I will give you your next clue.
