“ON AN EMPTY STOMACH, YOU CAN’T LEARN ANYTHING”
Snack Packs for Kids at Benjamin Banneker Elementary School (BBES)
St. Francis Xavier parish is partnering with the St. Mary’s Interfaith
Council to provide healthy, kid-friendly, easy to prepare snack foods to
keep children in food-insecure households from going hungry when
they’re not at school.
Using the approved shopping list, pick up snacks when you’re at the
grocery store. Then drop off your donation in the back of church
the first weekend of each month. Volunteers will pack the snacks into
bags, and on Fridays the BBES school counselors will inconspicuously put the packs into student
backpacks to take home.
To learn more or to help with this new parish ministry, email Wendy Schaller, at [email protected].
THANK YOU FOR YOUR STEWARDSHIP!
Many thanks to all our collection counters.
These faithful volunteers sort through and count
the collections each week. This isn’t the easiest
job we have at church — they sort through
messages, envelopes, forms, cash for our regular
and second collections. This all has to be
separated and properly accounted for, and they
prepare the deposits in a very secure, timely, and
efficient way. Our counters do a great job in
helping us be good stewards of God’s gifts that
come through you. Thank you, counters!
PRAYER FOR FAITHFUL CITIZENSHIP
Gracious and loving God,
let your Spirit be with us today.
Hear our prayers, and increase in us the will to
follow your Son Jesus.
Help us to draw on the resources of our faith
as we use the opportunities of our democracy
to shape a society more respectful of the
life, dignity, and rights of the human person,
especially the poor and vulnerable.
We ask this through Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the
Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam
For the greater glory of God...
Dear Parish Family,
It is with great joy that we welcome two new
staff members to our parish family here at
St. Francis Xavier.
Denise Becher is our new bookkeeper and
will be working here at the Parish Office every
other Friday from 8am – 4pm (her next Friday
will be November 9). Denise comes highly
recommended from St. Aloysius, where she has
worked for 13 years and continues her job there
as bookkeeper and parish secretary. Denise grew
up in Mechanicsville and is married 31 years with
two grown children. Denise and her husband live
in Hollywood and are members of St. John
Francis Regis Parish.
Noelle Tillstrum is our new Administrative
Assistant/Parish Secretary. Noelle is from the
U.S. Virgin Islands and moved to the United
States when she graduated from high school.
Noelle and her husband have been married 13
years and reside in Mechanicsville with their two
daughters. They moved to this area from Bowie
about three and a half years ago and are
parishioners at Our Lady of the Wayside.
Noelle’s background is in advertising sales and
she is also a Zumba instructor. Noelle will be
available to assist you here at the Parish Office on
Mondays, 11am – 4pm, and Tuesdays – Fridays,
10am – 3pm.
Lastly, I ask for your prayers as I prepare to
give a retreat this week (November 7-9) to the
parish catechetical leaders for the Archdiocese of
Washington. It will be especially meaningful for
me because I used to attend these retreats before
I entered the seminary, when I was a Director of
Religious Education.
Peace and blessings,
Fr. Rob
