MANOR HOUSE UPDATE
Great News! The Newtowne
Manor House is the recipient
of the generous donation of
$16,978.88 from the
St. Mary’s County Garden Club. This donation
is from the proceeds of the 2018 Maryland House
and Garden Pilgrimage held in May and an
additional donation from the St. Mary’s County
Garden Club in honor of the 80th Anniversary of
the Garden Club in the county. The Newtowne
Manor House was selected as the Garden Club’s
special project.
We are honored to have been chosen as their
special project and appreciate all the hard work by
the Garden Club members to organize, plan and
execute such an event. A special thanks to all the
parishioners who helped out to make it such a
success.

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam
For the greater glory of God...
Dear Parish Family,
A few times a year I serve on the Priest
Domestic Violence Advisory Committee for the
Archdiocese. We meet with Fr. John Enzler,
President and CEO of Catholic Charities, to help
families that are suffering from abuse in all its
forms. As I have learned more about this issue,
I realize how important it is that we talk about
this in our parishes. Domestic violence refers to a
pattern of violent and coercive behavior by one
adult over another in an intimate relationship.
It can consist of repeated severe beatings or
subtle forms of abuse, including threats and
control. It can include isolation. Isolation makes
it hard for the person being abused to see friends/
family; their mail is read, phone calls and texts are
monitored, car keys are taken away, etc. If you or
you someone you know is in a similar situation,
please feel free to talk with me at any time.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness
Month. The FBI says that every 15 seconds a
woman in this country is abused and beaten.
That 1 out of 3 or 4 women, either 25-30%, is
battered in her lifetime in this country. Parish
outreach can help build a community where this
kind of violence is no longer acceptable. Towards
this effort, Catholics for Family Peace (based at
Catholic University) invites you to join them in a
moment of prayer at 3 pm, wherever you are, for
those suffering from violence and abuse and those
who use violence to control others. We pray for
them and for all who work to end domestic
violence. Would you set an alarm to join them
each day to pray at 3 pm? Learn more at
www.catholicsforfamilypeace.org.
Peace and blessings,
Fr. Rob
