Of the gang of 15 that I used to hang out with, only three of us havedone something positive with our lives. I was lucky because table tennis
offered me a way out. If we could get more sporting opportunities forkids in places like that, it would give others a way out too.

The Spirit of London Awards - Directory of Affiliate Youth Services (DAYS) is a resource tool for schools and localauthorities to gain information on organisations who work with young people across London. We at SOLA knowthat if it was not for the thousands of projects which enhance and support young people to achieve their fullpotential we would not have a show. DAYS will be available to download & also feature on our website by Sept.
Every month we will pick one organisation to highlight and this month we have picked One Life.
One Life UK One Life UK are a London based Charity who provide essential life skills to youngpeople in your local area through DJ/Music and Film Production academies. They workto help vulnerable young people realise their potential and make a successful transitionto adulthood. Some of the young people they support have mental health issues, disabilities or drug and alcohol problems. Others are teenage parents, who many fallbehind at school or are excluded.
DJ & Music Production: The progr ammes teach how to DJ using vinyl, CD's or mp3s &on the very latest industry standard equipment, including the Pioneer CDJ400 CDdecks, Technics SL1210 turntables and Allen & Heath mixers to name a few. Theprogrammes specialise in educating those who wish to learn about DJing and theprogram is fully endorsed by the wor ld famous Carl Cox, one of the leading DJs in theworld.
Film & Photo Production: They create a unique environment in which students of allages, abilities, and experience can feel free to imagine, create, and welcome the artsinto their lives. The filmmaking workshop provides a professional work environmentthat is challenging, rewarding, creative, and respectful of ideas and individuals.
More Info: [email protected] or www.onelifeuk.org
Our Verdict: The One Life UK projects are really good for young [and old] people of all abilities. We like the fact that they also cater for young people with severedisabilities. The programmes are all mobile so deliver in schools; in community centresand all over the capital. The tutors are experienced and also are in the industry so it isreal knowledge; skills and experience that is being past on.
