North Carolina Updates ConstructionisstronginNorthCarolina,sothattranslatesintolotsoferosionandsedimentcontrolimplementationacrossthestate.Theentirestatehasexperiencedgoodrainfallandsoilmoistureconditionstopromotepermanentvegetationestablishmentthroughouttheentire2017growingseason.TheonlyexceptionoccurredincentralNorthCarolinaduringlateJulyandearlyAugustwheremildtomoderatedroughtconditionswerereported.However,heavythunderstormsinmidtolateAugusthavedropped1-2+"eventsoveraveryshorttimeframe.Constructionsiteshaveseenheavyerosionandstresshasbeenplaceduponsedimentcontrolpractices.Reportsfromcontractorsindicatethatworkersandforemenskilledinerosionandsedimentcontrolarebecomingmoreandmoredifficulttohire.Ourindustrywilllikelyneedmoretrainingopportunitiesforworkersenteringourscopeofpractice.NorthCarolinaandothersoutheasternstateshavegoodtrainingvenuesforthistargetaudience.NCSUcontinuestooffererosionandsedimentcontrol/stormwatertrainingandcertificationforcontractors,consultants,andpersonnelworkingonNCDOTprojects.Sincetheprogramstartedin2006,over10,000haveattendedthetraining.FolksworkinginotherconstructionsectorsoutsideofNCDOTalsoattendthetrainingincluding,municipal,military,power,andsolar.CheckouttheNorthCarolinalinksontheSEIECAchapter'swebpageforupcomingtrainingdates.ConstructionoftwoskimmerbasinslocatedonI-40/440inRaleighprovidesedimentcontainmentduringexcavationandgradingofthisinterchange.PhototakeninAugust2017.

Florida Updates There will be a Muddy Water Blues at Kissimmee, FL on Sept. 28th, 2017. This an outdoor technology transfer showing the real BMPs provided by several vendors and suppliers from all over the Southeast Chapter. This will be a FREE event with no cost for the attendees. Also, there will be a two day class in Florida Stormwater Erosion and Sedimentation Control Inspector's Qualification class on Sept. 27 and 29th. This class will be a FREE event with no cost for the attendees. All events and classes will be hosted by Osceola County, Florida.
