Fire and Gas System is designed to monitor, detect and alert on any possible hazard situation. To achieve this the Fire and Gas System is generally based on two philosophies. The fire detection philosophy is potential fires or fires are first of all prevented from occurring. Any fires are rapidly detected, contained and extinguished. The gas detection philosophy is to detect and indicate continuously the combustible gas accumulation well before it reaches a potentially hazardous level .Upon detection of any hazard situation the Fire and Gas System must first alert the situation to all personnel in the area either by audio or visual. Next, a definite controlled action can be automatically or manually initiated. These actions includes steps to isolate and shut off fuel sources or ignition sources, control or extinguish the fire manually or automatically with help of other systems. For this purpose Fire & Gas system is normally linked to fire fighting equipment such as Fire Water Pump, CO2 release systems, Foam release systems, etc. As the first level of safety precaution, Fire and Gas system must be independent of other systems as such any disturbance in other system will not affect Fire and Gas performance. This requirement has led to various safety level to be considered during design of the system.
We can supply SIL 1, SIL 2 , SIL 3 and Non SIL certified systems. Safety Technologies modular fire and gas system are designed to meet the stringent and demanding specifications required by Refineries, Chemical and Sewage Plants, Power Plants, Process Plants, Offshore Oil and Gas Platforms and Petrochemical Industries. The system is designed to operate and provide a wide range of warning signals involving a variety of fire and gas detectors/ controllers commonly used and approved in the market. Programmable Logic Controllers or SCADA systems are also incorporated to perform control logic, monitoring of multiple system functions, and control of automatic fire extinguishing systems.Safety Technologies is in a position to offer comprehensive systems in which smoke alarm, fire alarm and gas detection equipment are integrated. Our system is designed to meet the strict requirements of the oil and gas industries. It is suitable for use on offshore exploration and production platforms, chemical process plants and power generation plants. The systems are also designed to be used for hazardous areas.

Automation, Software and Informations Technology (ASI)'s main accreditation is:Quality and safety especially functional safety including safety management of software and systems (with or without software) and their components (electronic components, measuring and control devices, programmable electronic systems).TÜV Rheinland Group is a European Notified Body, authorized to certify to EU Directives (Machinery, Elevators, Low-Voltage, Pressure equipment, ATEX and EMC) and a Nationally Recognized Test Laboratory (NRTL) accredited by OSHA to certify to UL and other US standards, and by SCC to certify to CSA and other Canadian standards.
Systems, Devices & ComponentsThe automation of technical equipment for safety-related tasks by Programmable Electronic Systems (PES) involves risks. If this equipment fails to function - for example, through technical defects, faulty sequence of events or false human reaction, the environment and technology may well be endangered.Programmable Electronic Systems (PES) used for safety purposes normally consist of input devices (e.g. sensors), programmable electronics and output devices (e.g. actuators). Sufficient measures must be applied in order to keep the risk of a process within tolerable limits. These tolerable limits depend on the application, in accordance with national and international standards for the components of a PES with functional safety. Measures to avoid faults and detect and control failures must be implemented within the PES in order to accomplish functional safety.TÜV Rheinland Group, ASI carries out a type-approval to ensure that the related product includes sufficient functional safety according to the intended Safety Integrity Levels (SIL). TÜV Rheinland Group takes the requirements of national and international standards (IEC 61508, IEC 61511, IEC 62061, EN 954, ISO 13849 etc.) into consideration and ensures the related product's suitability for the intended application area.
11
Technical GuideType Approved Programmable Electronic Systems (PES) (PLC's)
There are considerable restrictions on the use of the PES in safety related applications, especially for the timing restrictions after faults have been detected. These timing restrictions are depending on calculations or applications. Refer to the detailed test reports of the respective TÜV test institute.

Safety Integrity Levels (SIL)SIL and availability are simply statistical representations of the integrity of the system when a process demand occurs. The acceptance of a SIL 1 means that the level of hazard or economic risk is sufficiently low that a system with a 10% chance of failure (90% availability) is acceptable. For example, consider the installation of a SIL 1 system for a high level trip in a liquid tank. The availability of 90% would mean that out of every 10 times that the level reached the high level trip point there would be one predicted failure of the system and subsequent overflow of the tank

TUV Class AK2 AK3 AK4 AK5 AK6 AK7
There is no direct conversion between the AK categories and SIL levels. However in general correlation between SIL and TUV Class are interpreted as follow:
Fault-free system
Degradation 1 Degradation 2 Degradation 3 System structure
2oo4 1oo2 1oo1* Shutdown Safety related and fault tolerant *with time Restriction
2oo4 1oo2 Shutdown Safety related and fault tolerant
1oo3 Shutdown Safety Related
2oo3 1oo2 1oo1* Shutdown Safety related and fault tolerant *with time Restriction
2oo3 1oo2 Shutdown Safety related and fault tolerant
1oo2D 1oo1D Shutdown Safety related and fault tolerant with time Restriction
1oo2 Shutdown Safety Related
2oo2 1oo1 Shutdown Safety related and fault tolerant
1oo1 Shutdown Safety related
Part 4 of the IEC 61508 gives the defintion ofMooN : M out of N channel architecture (for example 1oo2 is 1 out of 2 architecture, where either of the two
channels can perform the safety function)MooND : M out of N channel architecture with diagnostic

System StructuresThe nomenclature for system structures describes the possible degradation behaviour after fault detection and fault localisation for the central processing units. Variations are possible due to different implementation possibilities. This table shall give a first guideline. In the I/O area different degradation mechanisms are possible and implemented on the different systems.
