SUCCESSFUL STRATEGIES OF LAND ACCESS FOR THE NEW GENERATIONS
PROCASUR 13 OF MAY 2015
• Identify and analyze successful strategies of land access for rural youth in different regions (specifically in LAC and Africa) by presenting main approaches, types of intervention and lessons learned from PROCASUR and IFAD experiences;
• Present two good practices of land access for rural youth in Bolivia and Senegal;
• Collect your suggestions and recommendations about how to improve strategies and policies to secure and promote youth access to land;
• Procasur is a member of the regional ILC Platform in LAC since 2010
• Focal point for rural youth since 2014;• Working with rural youth since 2008: Rural
Youth Programme funded by IFAD which improved knowledge on the needs and expectations of rural youth;
• February 2014: launched a call for research to better understand local strategies that facilitate youth access to land promoted by ILC, Procasur and IFAD
• Received more than 100 proposals, • Funded 6 with ILC funds and additional 4 with
Procasur funds through the Youth programme;• Objective: improve understanding of specific
challenges and extract lessons to improve strategies and approaches to facilitate youth access to land

Challenges:
• Lack of registries and clearing of land titles; • Land concentration and fragmentation; • Absence of family planning and access
insecurity• Barriers based on gender

Some lessons learned:
• Encourage inheritance received in life; • Capacitate young peoples with certified
trainings; • Support young peoples in the analysis and
decision making;• Adopt gender/equity approaches and work
supporting young couples owing land• Encourage participation of young in
designing land programs for rural youth;
• Intergenerational dialogue as part of the family strategy;
• Strengthening and inclusion of young peoples in community organizations;
• Improving access to land for rural youth: family arrangements and initiatives for land acquisition.
