Pre-diabetes means that your blood sugar level is higher than normal, but not yet high enough to be diagnosed with diabetes.

AM I AT RISK?You may be at risk for pre-diabetes if you:• Areover45yearsofage.• Areoverweight.• Haveaparentorsiblingwithdiabetes.• Hadgestationaldiabetes.• Arenotphysicallyactiveatleast

three times a week.

CAN IT BE PREVENTED/TREATED?YES!Lifestylechangesincludingmodestweightloss,goodnutritionandregularexercisecanpreventpre-diabetes.Researchalsoshowsthatthesechangescanpreventordelaytype2diabetesin over half of patients with pre-diabetes.

Thinkproteinfoodsandproduce–tryto addaqualityprotein(chicken,fish,egg, tofu) and fresh vegetables in every meal.

Wateristhewaytogo–replacejuice,sodaandsugarydrinkswithwater.

Justsay“No”–politelyrefusetheextraserving at the family dinner and the powdered donut fromaco-worker.Friendsandfamilyoften havegoodintentions,butpracticesaying “Nothankyou”tostayontrack.

Size matters – be mindful of your portion sizes.
