Abstract

To day , the re is no way to deve lop o r te st these softwa re p ro ducts withou t a live DVC de vice. Fur thermore, s ome m odes of the de vice a re par ticular ly dif fic ultor cost ly to gene rat e fo r testing purpose s, fo r exa mp le cer tain types of fai lure mode s. T his p rojec t will dev elop a so ftware ba sed DVC simula tor that wil l acce pt HART com mands a nd gene rat e th e prop er respo nse s. The so ftwar e will con sist o f a s eria l por t communicat ion m odu leca pab le of rece iving and send in g H ART protoc ol pac kets, DVC s imu la tor logic c apa ble o f inte rpreting the com ma nds and send ing t he a pprop riate resp on se s, a nd a use r int erf ace where the use r canco nfigu re vario us op tion s and values th at wil l co ntr ol how the simu lator will re spond.
