KOLKATA JEWELLERY & GEM FAIR’14,
UBM India & CG&JWA successfully concluded the Kolkata Jewellery & Gem Fair 2014 (KJGF’14), catering to leading exhibitors and buyers from all across the country on 13th January, 2013. The KJGF’14, a three day B2B jewellery mega trade fair, held from 11th January to 13th January, 2014 at the Milan Mela Exhibition Complex, Kolkata was the first ever initiative of its kind in the city and state.
A unique feature of the launch edition of the KJGF’14 was the ‘The Golden Hand Award’, sponsored by MP Jewllers. This unique initiative honoured the unspoken heroes of the jewellery trade – the traditional ‘kaarigars’ who painstakingly create beautiful pieces through their craftsmanship.
The fair was represented by jewellery manufacturers from all
over India as well as international participants, showcasing intricate modern and traditional jewellery designs through plain & studded gold jewellery, loose diamonds and stones, gifting articles and machinery equipments. One of the attractions for the local jewellers was the dedicated machinery pavilion promoting technical knowhow in modern jewellery manufacturing.
The response generated in the industry as a result of the 1st edition of Kolkata Jewellery & Gem Fair 2014 (KJGF’14) has been very overwhelming. The event, as a platform to drive business, has set a precedent amongst the Gem and Jewellery trade fraternity in the region, to look forward to and to participate, in the coming years.
An industry strives when it ensures that people at the lowest section of the trade are given the right recognition and rewarded for their brilliance. UBM India has always strived to provide the best trade platform to the jewellery industry in India and at KJGF 2014, UBM India also ensured that the jewellery kaarigars are recognized for their hard work and hi end designs which are painstakingly created. The kaarigars were rewarded through the first ever ‘The Golden Hand Award’. This unique initiative has honoured the unspoken heroes of the jewellery trade who meticulously create beautiful pieces through their craftsmanship.
The Award sponsored by M P Jewllers; one of the pioneers of jewellery business in East India and was unveiled by Shri Bipin Roy Chowdhury of M P Jewellers. Biplab Roy Chowdhury, Senior Director, M P Jewellers & Co said, “The golden hand award is an excellent initiative and it gives me immense pleasure to get associated with the project.”

UBM INDIA’S
The first ever international B2BJewellery fair in Eastern India
Ashok Kumar Bengani, President, Calcutta Gem & Jewellers Welfare Association (CGJWA) said, “The business-to-business (B2B) congregation, with around 160 exhibitors, and a footfall of around 7,000-8,000 buyers and
international participants can easily give a business opportunity of approximately Rs. 300 crore.
Vivek Jain, Convenor, Calcutta Gems & Jewellery Association 2002 "KJGF'14 opened up never before seen opportunities to network, build relationships and create alliances with key industry professionals. We wholeheartedly would
like to thank UBM India for the Kolkata Jewellery & Gem Fair and also to all participating exhibitors who have understood the needs and opportunities in this market and why such a mega platform is necessary for the trade"
Siddharthaa Sawansukha, Director, Sawansukha Jewellers “It’s a proud moment for Kolkata, finally East India has a platform to connect with b2b jewellery trade and to promote the handicraft work and artisans. We thank UBM
to provide us this opportunity. It was a good oppurtunity to display designs to the retailers of Nepal, Bihar, Bangladesh, Orissa and Assam.”
Bablu De, Working President, Swaran Shilpi Bachao Committee
"KJGF’14 is poised to uplift the standard of jewellery design, several notches higher and the Golden Hand Award is an excellent initiative by
UBM India for the jewellery craftsmen. Initiatives like these recognize the artistic brilliance of Indian karigars who have long been deprived of platforms where they can exhibit their skills to the industry at large."
