Molecular Design Chemistry uses organic chemistryknowledge—structure, reactivity, molecular properties andinteractions—together with multi-dimensional data analysisto lead our drug discovery teams through an iterativeprocess of structural optimization resulting in the discoveryof clinical drug candidates.

Synthetic Chemistry routinely solves difficult problems:From providing quick, flexible syntheses of milligramquantities of compounds for rapid exploration of SAR, toenabling challenging reactions, synthesizing hundreds ofgrams of material for safety studies, or generating initialroutes for Process Chemistry Research to scalecompounds to kilogram scale, synthesis is pivotal to thedrug discovery process.

Computational Chemistry uses theoretical physics, andchemistry−based computer models and simulations toimpact the drug discovery process. Applications include theprediction of structures, properties, molecular interactionsand chemical reaction mechanisms in combination withlarge−scale data analytics to discover new medicines.

Chemical Biology applies chemical and genetictechniques, often coupled with multi-omics approaches, tothe study and manipulation of molecular events inbiological systems. Chemical Biology provides anenhanced understanding of biology, drug mechanisms,target engagement and selectivity. Chemical biologistsroutinely engage with colleagues with a variety ofbackgrounds in a highly matrixed, dynamic, andmultidisciplinary environment.

Analytical Chemistry develops analytical methods for thecharacterization of chemical entities, including activepharmaceutical ingredients, and drug product formulationsusing a range of instruments and techniques. Theanalytical chemist also provides data for structuralelucidation, chemical purity, drug product potency andperformance, as well as methods for purification ofcompounds.

Process Chemistry Research identifies viable routes toallow the synthesis of lead compounds to the multi-kilogram scale typically needed for regulatory safety testingand clinical trials in humans. For compounds that go on tocommercial production, they are responsible for devisingthe manufacturing route utilized. A key goal for processchemistry is to develop synthetic routes that are safe, cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and efficient.

Drug Product Design designs, characterizes anddevelops the solid form of active pharmaceutical ingredient(API) and drug product formulations from discovery tocommercial launch.
