Father George Discussion: the book;Moving in the Spirit
By Richard J. Hauser, S.J.
Criteria for Recognizing the Holy Spirit
“If our heart is moving toward the desire to love and serve God and others, the Spirit is present. If our
heart is not moving toward that desire, the Spirit is not present-by “heart” let us understand the deepest part of our being, our center, the place from which
we make our most free choices.”

ROME TRAVELERS
Park in our lot. Ride the Golf Cart to Mass
Lock your car!
There will not be a Craft Day in August. With vacations and other things going on we are unable to meet then. We apologize for this, but promise you we will have Craft Day again beginning in September on the 5th, which is the day after Labor Day. For those of you who are learning to make rosaries we will pick up right where we left off. Have a blessed rest of the summer.
THE TRAVELER’S PRAYER
Our Lady of the Highways,
I call on you in my journeys To make my path a holy one,
A safe one- One both righteous and beautiful.
May I meet on my journey fellow pilgrims To share my psalms,
As well as the broken and disconsolate, That I may bless them in body and soul.
Holy Mary, With thee I pray for all who travel
Under burning sun or through driving rain, Through a teeming city or a barren wilderness, Over treacherous waters to unknown shores.
May they find shelter along the way, Food for the journey,
Compassion in the hearts of those they meet, And safe harbor at the cooked road’s end.
Reflect the Creator’s shining grace onto all our paths, Blessed Mother.
May all our journeys lead us closer to God. Amen
Sunday, August 6, 2017 The Transfiguration of the Lord
EYEWITNESSES .Today, the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, is a day of eyewitness accounts. The first, a vision reported by the prophet Daniel, was well known to Jesus and his apostles. The vision account was written in quite mystical and figurative language. It is a vision of heaven, powerful and memorable. There are flames of fire, burning wheels, the Ancient One, and a Son of Man. Clearly, Daniel saw something. But was it a dream? Was it real? Was it merely a clever myth? Peter wants no such confusion about his vision! We are told in Matthew's Gospel what he and his friends James and John saw when they went up on the mountain with Jesus one day. Jesus warned the three witnesses to tell no one until "the Son of Man has been raised from the dead" (Matthew 17:9). Lest readers of one of the Gospels discount the story or simply write it off as a pious myth, Peter gives his own account of the Transfiguration of Jesus in his second letter to the church. He writes with authority, as an eyewitness. He reports this message from God concerning Jesus: "This is my Son, my beloved, with whom I am well pleased," and he assures us that the message is "altogether reliable" (2 Peter 1:17, 19). TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
As the Latin Mass evolved in the first six centuries, the central prayer, what the Greeks called the anaphora and what we call today the Eucharistic Prayer, became fairly standard almost everywhere in the West. What we now know as Eucharistic Prayer I, or the Roman Canon, took a complex shape, not at all like the fluid and spontaneous prayers of early Rome, but a real architectural construction. The city of Rome was in a terrible condition by that time, and a series of political upheavals, plagues, and invasions swept through. Not much of Rome's former glory was left standing, except for the pope, who became a symbol of protection and hope for the troubled people. The structures of law and administration were swept away in the chaos, and the pope gradually assumed authority to restore and maintain order. Soon, the public liturgy of Rome became the city's only glory. The Romans wanted "good order" not only in their civic life, but in their liturgy. One prayer, increasingly enriched by music (although when the music tried to overtake the prayer the pope banned musical instruments entirely) was the new rule of the day. That one prayer, the Roman Canon, was solidly in place when the first liturgical book we have, the Leonine Sacramentary of 540, was compiled. --Rev. James Field, Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co
ENTHRONEMENT OF THE SACRED HEART
"I will bless every house in which the picture of My Heart shall be exposed and honored." This was one of the promises Jesus revealed when He appeared to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque in Paray le Monial, France (1673). The enthronement of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in our homes signifies a family's commitment to Christ. It is more than a mere blessing and placement of a Sacred Heart image...it is a way of life.
For information on a home enthronement of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, please contact parishioner, Mary Gallimore at: 501-282-1383 or email; [email protected]
Mary Undoer of Knots Praying for your local Bishop Hebrews 13:17-18 “Obey your leaders and follow their orders. They watch over your souls without resting, since they must give to God an account of their service. If your obey them, they will do their work gladly: if not, they will do it with sadness, and that would be of no help to you. Keep on praying for us. We are sure we have a clear conscience, because we want to do the right thing at all times.” (GNT)
Daily Intention Holy Mary, you who are Queen of the Apostles, I ask you to pray now for their successors, the bishops. Take into your hands whatever knots for lie in the soul and circumstances of my local bishop, and together with Saint Ambrose, loose those knots for the golory of God. My bishop carries a most heavy burden, Holy Queen; lend him your wisdom, grace, and holiness as he seeks to shepherd his diocese and lead his flock to build the kingdom of God. Lastly, Mother, untie whatever knots of pride or disagreement I have with my bishop, and lead me top submit to his authority. Mary, Undoer of Knots, pray for us.
