powered golf cart. You can tell it is the start because she
is still wearing her hat.
2012 SVRAI spent the weekend of June 21-24 at Mid-Ohio watching some of the best Mini racing in the North America. Seven vintage Minis showed up to race at one of the best “Mini tracks” in North America. And race they did. During all seven sessions there would be three, four and sometimes five Minis racing nose-to-tail. Greg Wold in the number 88 Mini would prove to be the fastest from the get-go. His years of experience at Mid-Ohio proved to much for the newcomers to the track. All of the Minis were prepared and driven to the MAX.
Greg Wold #88Of the 7 Minis attending this event, Greg had the most experience at Mid-Ohio. He led all of the timed sessions on the track, starting with a fast lap of 1:46.6 during Fridayʼs practice session, which he said was his fastest lap ever at Mid-Ohio. He would lower his fast lap times on most of the fo l lowing session, turning his fastest lap of the weekend of 1:45.080 during Sundayʼs race. Each morning Greg would arrive to find a piece of rail road track attached to his Mini with hopes of slowing him down.
MiniAndy Nelson # 168
The #168 Mini is without a doubt the most beautifully prepared vintage Mini on track ever. It looks like Andy and Rachel picked the car up at the dealers yesterday, added a roll bar and flares and came to the track. Andy was able to reduce his fast time on Friday morning from 1:53.058 to a 1:46.088 by the race on Saturday afternoon. He finished second to Greg in all three races of the event. The sequence at the bottom of the page, shows Andy passing Greg at the start of the first race on Saturday. Click HERE to watch Andyʼs in-car video from the weekend.

Dave Dratt #96

Dave made it up from Lake Wales, Florida for his first visit to Mid-Ohio. Not only did Dave have the longest haul, but it appeared to me that he came with the best prepared Mini of the 6 Minis that I was around most of the weekend. He would gas-up and go racing and having fun. Starting with the Friday morning p r a c t i c e , D a v e improved his fast times f r o m 1 : 5 2 . 8 2 3 t o 1:46.074 during the Sunday race.
Mack McCormack #109

Mack was having an issue with his Mini when he unloaded and wasnʼt able to get a timed lap until the qualifying race on Friday afternoon when he turned a 1:50.967. He, like all of the others, improved his lap times each session after that and was able to do a fast lap of 1:47.614 in the Sunday race. He equaled his fourth place finish of the first race on Saturday morning.
Mark Pentz #50The #50 Mini is a Works Mini that won the Index of Performance in 1966 South African 9 Hour Race. It was brought to the US in 2000 by Markʼs dad and Mark just recently started racing it. So Mark was not just learning a new track, he was also learning the Mini. He would lower his Friday morning practice time of 1:53.981 down to 1:48.439 by the end of the race on Sunday.
Richard Paterson #97Richard was another driver who started the weekend with car problems, but his would continue throughout the weekend. When he was running, he was very fast. He turned the second fast time of the qualifying session of 1:47.760 on Friday afternoon. After only r u n n i n g 4 l a p s i n Saturdayʼs race, Richard started last of the field on Sunday, but had worked his way up to 4th before going out on the last lap. His fast lap on Sunday was 1.45.729, the 2nd fastest of the Minis for the weekend.
Terry Milnes # 424Terry was one of the four Minis that raced in a pack in each of on track session, usually a couple of seconds behind Greg Wold. On Saturday, Terry won the CS class of the 18 lap British Invasion race leading Andy Nelson and Dave Dratt to a 6th, 7th, & 8th overall finishes in the field of 36 British Cars, that include everything from a 990cc Bugeye up to a 4.2 Jag.Terryʼs fast time in practice on Friday morning was a 1:52.253 He quickly reduced this to a 1:46.197 during the qualifying race on Friday afternoon, which was his fastest time of the weekend.
