St. Philip Neri Parish and School’s Lenten Outreach
Food and Monetary Donations for South America http://www.artesanosdonbosco.com/ - click on CHARITY!
Artesanos Don Bosco is one project in a long list of volunteer-run charitable works of the organization called Operation Mato Grosso (OMG).
Father Ugo De Censi is a Catholic priest, belonging to the Salesian Congregation. A faithful devotee of St. John Bosco, he loves to work with the youth. In 1967 he founded OMG, a movement created to help people in poverty.
Operation Mato Grosso started off as an adventurous trip with the idea to help others. In 1966, Fr. Ugo asked a group of young Italians to travel to Brazil for the summer to help his missionary friend, Fr. Pietro, build a school and health post. By July of the next year, 21 young people left for the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso. After four months of work, they were not able to complete the building, and some decided to stay. Those who returned to Italy started to raise money to support the mission. The mission now includes 110 different communities across Brazil, Bolivia, Ecuador, and Peru.
DURING THIS LENT KEEP IN MIND PEOPLE IN NEED
Please feel free to do both – collect food and donate money! Thanks in advance for your collaboration! Alma Grossman, SPN Social Outreach, 410-859-0571 ext. 220 Sue Wenzlick, SPN Advancement Director, 410-859-1212 ext. 207
SCHOOL FAMILIES – FOOD DRIVE
If you like to help place a basket in your dining room, and during the 40 days of Lent, every day put 2 lbs. of food (listed below) in the basket. Every day before dinner, keep in mind that there are some people around the world that do not have enough to eat. It is a nice way to be thankful for what we have.
We collect 6 staple food items:
PASTA RICE CANNED FOOD (veggies) SUGAR FLOUR COOKING OIL
Food will be used in our programs – in our schools, where we provide free meals to the students, in soup kitchens where we feed elderly people or people who are not able to provide for themselves, to patients in our hospitals and clinics, and more. Our objective is to fill and send containers of food to send to Peru, right after Easter.
PARISH FAMILIES – MONETARY DONATIONS
Along with the efforts of the Food Drive St. Philip Neri Parish families are being ask to collect money for this worthy cause!
The volunteer efforts have been established between Italy and South America, and youth from the U.S. are gradually becoming more involved. In the past two summers, they organized a month-long trip to Peru with people from Baltimore. Meanwhile, two groups of about 12 teenagers each have started to raise money to support the missions in South America. They meet 2-3 times per week during their free time to work in landscaping, painting, moving or cleaning. Everything they earn in pay goes to the charity. Can you help support this effort? Please pick up a Lenten Offering Box and start putting in your spare change or large bills during this season of Lent. Please turn in all donation the week after Easter.
Mr. Leo Zerhusen, founder of HOPE FOR ALL and former St. Philip Neri Teacher, sent a message about needed items. Clothing may be dropped in the box between the Parish Office Doors. Other items call number above.
For How can you help? Please send this information to your friends, parishioners, family members, fellow workers, your face book followers, neighbors, and church members. Please try to follow the rules of giving clothing and house hold items. We are not trying to be picky but we must always remember the dignity of His lambs and sheep. The amount of items we have to recycle is around 50% of what we receive and that makes it very difficult on our volunteers. Thanks in advance for your help!

ST PHILIP NERI
NEW STUDENT REFERRAL
PROGRAM
You are our most valuable source for spreading the good news about SPN and we wish to incentivize bringing new families to
our school!
How does it work?
For each new family that enrolls at St. Philip Neri School your family will receive a
$250 discount off of tuition per referral! Listed below are the guidelines for this NEW STUDENT REFERRAL PROGRAM:
The enrolling family must mention referring family’s name to the Advancement Director or write your name down on the SPN “Prospective Student Information” form that is completed on their first visit to the school.
The “new” students cannot be siblings of current/alumni students.
Only full time entering Kindergarten through 8th grade students are eligible for the $250 discount. For Pre-Kindergarten referrals please contact the Admissions Director.
Referring and referred family must be enrolled for the entire school year.
The discount is paid out as a one-time credit on the referring family’s last tuition payment in April. If tuition has been paid in full before April, then a check will be issued.
As a referring family you may receive multiple discounts, not to exceed the total family tuition cost.
If more than one current family refers the same new family the discount is split.
New Student Referral Program is starting for the 2017-2018 school year.
What is the best way to invite prospective families?
Person to person is the best approach! Use email, social media, or however you are most comfortable chatting about SPN. If you would like a school brochure to share with a prospective family, please either pick one up in the school office or ask Mrs. Sue Wenzlick.
Questions?
If you have any questions about this new program, please contact Mrs. Sue Wenzlick at 410-859-1212 ext. 207 or [email protected].
Thank you for helping build our school community!
