2009 Was An Inspiring Year
• Only a few of my del.icio.us bookmarks get the tag INSPIRATION
• I picked 10 of them from 2009
• Ten projects that made me realize the unlimited opportunities in today's marketing.
1Citizen Ecological Watch
Citizen launches the Eco-Drive watch,
which can be charged by any light source.
The ‘Light Forever’ video and its music are breathtaking,
and make me want to visit Tokyo in 2010
2Crowdsourcing a Pitching Process
The Mayor of London has issued a public brief for re-branding
the chaotic identity of London and its extensions.
MovingBrands agency decided to open the pitching process
to the public. Crowdsourcing at its best.
3Draw me 10,000 Sheep
Aaron Koblin, an artist specializing in data visualization, asked
workers on Amazon’s Mechanical Turk to draw him a sheep.
Workers were paid 2 cents per sheep. The stunning sheep
collage was presented worldwide and on the project’s website .
424 Hour Startup

to conceive, design, build and promote a web-based business
within 24 hours. The team broadcast the experiment live
and offered their as yet not born idea for sale on ebay .
5The Fun Theory
VW campaign “is dedicated to the thought that something
as simple as fun is the easiest way to
change people’s behaviors for the better”.
This idea is expressed by a series of fun experiments .
6Real-Time BBQ
This year I got turned on by many new location based services
but the korean-twitterish-meaty version of a retro ice-cream
truck made my mouth water .
Kogi BBQ travels around LA, twitters its location, plugs
its essence and today has tens of thousands of followers.
7Kickstarter Ideas
They say:
“Kickstarter is a new way to fund creative ideas and ambitious
endeavors……Project creators inspire people to open their
wallets by offering smart, fun and tangible rewards.”
8The Generation M Manifesto
Umair Haque describes tectonic changes in economic and
social reality. M generation is a generation of passion,
authenticity, and responsibility. Unlike other generational
models, M generation is not defined by age, but by ambition -
to make a difference, to change .
9A Transparent Bank
First Direct Bank posts both positive and negative feedback
from its clients, live on its website - we can read
what they say and how content they are.
Radical transparency indeed .
10Welcome to Now
2009 was the year of real-time, in which new standards
of service, communication and the processing of information
picked. Sprint launched its 4G network with a cool website,
a simulation of real-time NOW.
Here’s to a happy inspiring 2010
