Dear Colleague,
It is our pleasure to announce that the Asia Pacific AIDS & Co-infections Conference (APACC) is scheduled to take place on 28 -30 June 2018 in Hong Kong. Over the years, enormous progress has been made in the fight against HIV and co-infections with HIV. Both academia and industry have contributed greatly to equipping the medical community with the best medications and expertise possible to optimally treat their HIV and co-infected patients. However, the international platforms for scientific interchange are not always accessible to medical professionals worldwide due to budget and travel restrictions. Also, these major events do not regularly address local and regional issues. In particular, the Asian medical community in this field of research is facing challenges in tin this regard as there is currently no platform that serves the needs of HIV healthcare professionals in this region.
The APACC provides a much-needed scientific platform that focuses on the developments, issues and needs in the Asia Pacific region, which has no other conference of this kind. Researchers have the opportunity to present and discuss the latest developments and are offered opportunities for interaction, networking and building collaborations. Top experts integrate science and clinical practice through state-of-the-art lectures, clinical case discussions, round-table discussions and debates in order to reach consensus on best practices and develop guidelines for treatment.
We look forward to welcoming you in Hong Kong!

NEEDS STATEMENT
Over the years, treating viral diseases has become more and more complex. Given the increase in therapeutic options in Asia and the Pacific, clinicians and researchers would clearly benefit from the opportunity to be informed and to discuss the newest data and their implications for clinical practice. The APACC provides a much-needed scientific platform that focuses on the developments, issues and needs in the Asia Pacific region.
MISSION
APACC highlights and addresses the challenges in combating and controlling the HIV and co-infection epidemics in the Asia-Pacific region, home to more than half the world’s population.
By bringing together national, regional, and international experts and connecting countries from across the resource spectrum, this conference places an emphasis on new research findings, treatment guidelines, policy, and addressing stigma and discrimination, particularly among vulnerable populations. We aim to help and encourage regional healthcare and community representatives to better understand the context of HIV-infection. By empowering healthcare providers, community representatives, and all those involved in championing the rights of people with HIV and related co-infections, we can achieve successful responses to these pandemics.
TARGET AUDIENCE
• Medical professionals involved in daily care of individuals infected with HIV and HIV-HCV, HIV-HBV, HIV-TB and other HIV co-infections
• Clinical, translational and basic researchers, physicians, general practitioners, nurses
• Residents, post-graduates and PhD students
• Government agency personnel, NGO representatives, health authority personnel
• Industry representatives
• Social workers, advocates and community workers
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This 2.5 day regional meeting consists of pleanary & parallel sessions, invited lectures, clinical case discussions, round-table discussions, symposia, oral abstract- and poster presentations. In order to ensure an interactive workshop setting, much time is allocated to discussion. As the meeting is abstract driven, it is an excellent platform for young investigators to present their research. To ensure the quality of the accepted abstracts, all submitted abstracts go through a peer-reviewed process conducted the Organizing and Scientific Committees.
MEETING DESCRIPTION
Asia Pacific AIDS & Co-infections Conference 2018 - Meeting Prospectus6
MEETING OBJECTIVES
• Gather cross-disciplinary professionals in an interactive workshop setting to present and discuss the latest developments in the field of HIV
• Promote dissemination and successful translation of new knowledge regarding HIV and co-infections while facilitating a neutral, scientific knowledge exchange
• Foster new and lasting crossdisciplinary partnerships and collaborations between researchers in HIV, hepatitis, tuberculosis, policy makers, NGOs, among others in order to improve the knowledge sharing, with the end goal of improving health span within the rapidly HIV/AIDS population
• Attract, showcase, and maintain new, early career, and underrepresented investigators to this multidisciplinary area of research and to translate novel findings into clinical practice
LEARNING OUTCOMES/ IMPACT
Evaluation of the previous event showed that 92% of the participants (strongly) agreed that their knowledge on HIV and Hepatitis increased. 78% of the participants indicated that they are intending to incorporate this gained knowledge into the clinical care of their patients. Not having access to medication or the procedures was considered by 41% of the participants as the main reason for not incorporating the knowledge.
After participating in this activity, the participants will be able to:
• describe the major achievements and
challenges in antiviral therapy for HIV- and/or hepatitis-infected patients in the Asian Pacific Region.
• identify improved treatment options of their patients
• initiate (research) collaborations to further improve the level of knowledge on clinical management in the Asian Pacific Region.
After attending this meeting, HCPs will be able to incorporate newly learned knowledge to the clinical care of their patients. Moreover, non-HCP participants will be able to make appropriate adjustments to policies in public, institutional and private settings.
ASSESSMENT METHOD
Virology Education provides each delegate with a detailed feedback form where they assess the quality of the speakers, attainment of meeting objectives, their intent to change, the rationale behind their motivation to attend, general logistics of the meeting, and much more.
All questions are analyzed and a comprehensive report created and shared with Organizing Committee members. These reports help us better understand our delegates and improve our meetings.
For a maximum response rate, session chairs encourage participants to take a few minutes and complete the feedback forms. We are also introducing a web-based application for electronic access.
ACCREDITATION
CME accredition will be available.

CONFERENCE PARTICIPATION GRANTS
Conference Participation Grants (CPGs) provide healthcare professionals with the opportunity to attend a conference they would otherwise be unable to attend. All applications include a CV, a motivation letter, and potentially an abstract (requirements vary depending on the workshop). These are submitted via an independent CPG portal and are evaluated against assessment criteria using a robust, impartial and independent peer review processes led by the Grant Review Committee. This process ensures that only the highest quality, most relevant and most competitive research is accepted.
These grants are supported by financial contributions allocated by the sponsor, who has no control, influence, or involvement in the selection process. Priority is given to applicants who have actively contributed to original research / scientific work that will be presented at the meeting and/or those who will profit most from participating in order to improve their daily clinical management.
These grants help defray costs for registration, travel and accommodation for delegates and foster their ability to form valuable professional networks and develop vital collaborations. Conference participation grant applications will be solicited, selected and awarded by an expert Grant Review Committee.
Please note that the TITANIUM, PLATINUM and GOLD support levels will reduce the costs for conference participation grants. Supporters can indicate a desired number of CPGs to be granted in the response form further below.
Below are several CPG options:
