Malama Composites, LLC
Making products GREEN to the core
Corporate Overview
• An Innovative Green Technology Company supplying high quality foam composites - clean green rigid polyurethane foam from renewable hydrocarbon (plant) sources.
• Located in San Diego
• In Hawaiian, MALAMA means “To Care for and Protect.”
Malama Composites, LLC
Polyurethane foam is produced through a reaction of a isocyonate (the “A-Side”) with a polyalcohol (polyol) (the “B-Side”), a catalyst and other additives.
Traditionally produced using toxic organic compounds and petrochemical inputs as the A-Side and a polyol derived from fossil fuels as the B-Side.
A-Side: Isocyonate, a toxic volatile organic compound, presents some health risks to humans. Repeated exposure in the course of polyurethane foam production has been known to cause respiratory ailments.
B-Side: Polyol is a compound derived from diminishing fossil fuel resources. Without question, traditional polyurethane foam is extremely harmful to the environment – its production releases volatile organic compounds into the atmosphere, its production requires the use of chemicals derived from finite fossil fuels and the final product is not degradable.
The Market Problem
Malama Composites, LLC
Malama has developed a formula and a method of production for agri-based rigid polyurethane foam that uses methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (“MDI”) as the A-Side and a B-Side polyol derived from renewable, non-fossil fuel sources. – A-Side: Of the commonly available isocyanates, MDI is the least toxic
and has low human toxicity and presents low ecological risk. – B-Side: Malama only uses polyols derived from plant oil sources, such
as castor, soy, and jatropha. (40-60% of total mix)
Malama is dedicated to new product development using polyols derived from sources such as castor, jatropha, and algae that do not compete with resources for food production.
Compared to traditional polyurethane foam, the clean polyurethane foam produced by Malama has similar or better performance characteristics and is degradable.
Malama’s foam is a higher performing, higher quality, and more environmentally friendly than traditional polyurethane foam.

Malama Composites, LLC
1. Building and ConstructionSIPs, insulation and decking
Structurally Insulated Panels (SIP) are prefabricated insulated structural elements for use in building walls, ceilings, floors, and roofs.
Superior and uniform insulation compared to more traditional construction methods (stud or "stick frame"), offering significant energy savings.
When installed properly, SIPs also provide a more airtight structure, which makes it more comfortable and quieter.
