Recap and summarise what has happened
Make predictions about Chapters 4 and 5 of the novel
Ask and answer questions about Chapters 4 and 5 of the novel
Summarise Chapters 4 and 5 of the novel
Read Chapters 4 and 5 of the novel
Students Prior Knowledge:
Students have previously read Chapters 1, 2 and 3 of the novel. Students have not previouslyengaged in the Four Doors guided reading strategy. Students are able to formulate and answer
questions.Preparation:
Four Door cards Roles and Explanation
A copy of the novel Charlottes Web by E.B. White
White board and white board markers
Guided Reading Groups
Extension Work
Turn over the worksheet and write 5 things you remember feeling when you met new friends
at school
Draw a picture of what you think Wilbur looks

Lesson Progression
Gather the students at their desks and ask for quiet and attention
Let the students know that we are going to be continuing the term novel
Ask the students to get out their own copies of the novel
Ask the students to recap what has happened in Chapters 1 through 3
Explain to the students that we are going to be trying something new Four
Doors
Outline the Four Doors methodology to the students
Have a volunteer hand out the Role Cards and the explanation cards
Split the students into groups of four
Ask the students to each select a role in their group and read their
explanation cards
Explain to the students that we are going to focus on two of the doors today
Ask the students to start working with the Four Doors on Charlottes Web
Walk around the classroom listening to the students, giving advise and
making corrections where necessary
Stop regularly and ensure that the students do not have any misconceptions
about what they are doing
Ask the students to put away their English books and return the Four Doors
cards
Ask a volunteer to hand out the worksheet
Ask the students if they have any questions about the worksheet
Have the students work quietly on their worksheet
Have the students place their completed worksheets on my desk for
correction
Ask the students to recap the lesson Four Doors, Chapters 4 and 5 and
reflect on the lesson
Ask the students to pack away their things and put their novel away
Congratulate the students on a great lesson and prepare them for the start of
the next lesson
