______________WELCOME__________________
Principal’s Message…
Dear Parents and Students,
We are pleased to welcome you to Eastside Elementary School, the proud home of the bobcats. At Eastside, you will find a supportive and caring family environment, where student success is our number one goal!
As you explore the opportunities that Eastside can provide students, you will find enrichment and remediation in the academic areas, and a fine arts program that includes Art, Music, and Chorus.
Eastside teachers frequently meet and plan to create an environment that is safe, welcoming and engaging. Grade level representatives work with the administration to create and update a School Improvement Plan that is based upon academic, social and facility needs.
Our dedication to students and their academic performance is
part of a formula that results in student success. The other part of the formula is the relationship we share with you, the parents and students. Through frequent communication, we can work together to provide the best learning environment for every student.
Infinite Campus is a web based student management system that permits parents/guardians with Internet access to view their child’s Attendance, Progress Report and Report Card. Parents may visit the school to pick up their activation code to access Parent Portal. To receive the code, all parents will have
to show a valid, picture ID and sign a Parent Portal Acceptable Use Agreement. The link to Parent Portal is on our county website, www.cowetaschools.org.
Please feel free to contact us through e-mail, phone calls or planned visits. Also please visit our school website @ www.cowetaschools.org/ees. Thank you,
Leigh Munson, Principal

Bus Transportation Students are assigned to ride school buses that will pick them up and
drop them off in close proximity of their homes. Bus transportation is a privilege provided to all students who can cooperate and abide by the
rules. Problems on a school bus are a Road Hazard. Reasonable behavior ensures a safe ride for students.
As of Aug. 2010, a new ruling regarding the return of students to their school was activated. Bus drivers will be allowed to return the student to school, when there is no one at the house. After the second return to school, all bus services will be discontinued.
General Bus Rules: • Observe classroom conduct
• Co-operate with the driver
• Remain seated
• No excessive noise
• Sit in your assigned seat
• Do not eat, drink, or chew gum on the bus
• Keep the bus clean
• Do not damage bus or equipment/Do not tamper with equipment
• Keep head, hands, and feet inside the bus
• Be courteous and respectful
• No harassing and/or bullying of anyone
• No profane language
• Do not fight, push, or shove
• No animals—dead or alive
• No tobacco products of any description
• No flammable material
• No throwing of any objects out the bus window
• No balloons, water, or glass items
• No objects larger than you can hold in your lap
• Do not use any type of electronic device
• No weapons or any item resembling a weapon
• Boys and girls do not sit together
• Students are to have a note from their parent or guardian that has
been approved through the school office to ride a different bus and/or get off at a stop other than their own.
“Do Not Lose Your Bus Privilege!” Follow the Rules
Note: Parents should closely supervise children at bus stops to ensure
their safety as they wait and properly board the school bus.
Page 7
Bus Rider Procedures (Arrival) Please read and follow the procedures outlined in the county
handbook for student safety. Also, for the safety of students as well as for a good start to the academic day and prompt dismissal each
afternoon, please adhere to the following in house procedures.
• When unloading at Eastside, students are asked to exit buses and immediately step up on the walkway away from the curb.
• Students are to proceed immediately to their homerooms.
• After reporting to the homeroom teacher, students may then go to breakfast or get a bathroom or hall pass as necessary.
• As students proceed along the walkway after leaving the bus, they are asked to stay under the overhang away from the curb for safety
reasons. Students are not to wait for other students. Students are
not to escort others to class, except for siblings of Pre-K students.
Bus Rider Procedures (Departure)
• Bus drivers may not let a child off the bus at any other stop other than his own without written approved authorization to do so.
• Please do not meet the bus along the route to ask for your child to be let off. Please meet him/her at home instead.
• Students will walk to the buses with their homeroom or designated teacher. This is not the time to stop for water or visit with friends.
• As students walk in line at the bus loading area, they are to leave the class line as they come to their bus and board immediately.
Transportation Changes There will be NO transportation changes accepted after 2:00 p.m.
All transportation notes/changes MUST be in writing and received by the
teacher early in the day. Please include on the note the first and last
name of the student, teacher’s name, the date, the address the child is
to be dropped off (if bus rider) or the name of the person picking up the
student (if car rider). The person picking up the student will be asked to
show identification.
**SEE EXAMPLES ON PAGE 18—-CLIP, COPY AND USE
On occasion, when situations arise, you can either fax your transportation change to the school at 770 599-8530 or send an e-mail
to each of the following people: • [email protected]
** Please do not use e-mail as a regular means to change your child’s transportation.
Page 8
Car Rider Procedures (Arrival) • Car riders are dropped off and picked up in the front of the gym.
Drop off begins at 7:25. Students arriving at school after 8:00 will
need to be brought in to the office and signed in by the parent. • Car riders should arrive by 7:45 a.m., so that they will have time to
eat breakfast and get to class by 8:00 a.m. • No students are to be let out in front of the school before
8:00.
Car Rider Procedures (Departure)
• All car riders are dismissed at 2:25 each day. For the safety and well being of your child, we have designed a system for car riders. If
followed properly the system will be more efficient and above all,
safer for all students who are car riders.
• Do not arrive to pick up your child before 2:10; you must not block traffic on Eastside School Rd.
• A sign will be made for each child who is a car rider on a routine basis. The sign is to be displayed on the dashboard of your car so
that it can be easily seen by our faculty/staff on car duty. This
will help those on duty to have the right child ready when the
vehicle stops. If someone else picks up your child for you at any
time, please give that person your child’s sign. Anyone who does
not have a car rider sign will have to enter the front office to sign
the child out.
• Students are to wait with their grade level group quietly until called to be loaded. When they are called they will report to the loading
area.
• Please do not park your car and come to the dismissal area to pick up your child.
• When picking up students from after school activities, please check with the teacher in charge for location of pickup.
• Please refrain from cell phone usage while proceeding through the car rider lanes.
• Students should be securely buckled before leaving the car rider area
Early Dismissal-No check-out after 2:00 PM Early dismissals are considered excused or unexcused tardies.
No student will be called out of the classroom until the parent arrives and has signed the student out.

Bobcat Positive Behavior Plan
Caring, Productive, and Responsible
Eastside’s School-Wide Positive Behavior Support is a set of strategies and systems to reduce school disruptions, and educate all students including those with problem behaviors. Eastside teachers and staff will teach, model and practice each of the behavioral expectations throughout the year. The behavioral expectation system focuses on acknowledging students who demonstrate Eastside’s behavioral expectations. When we observe students being caring, productive and/or responsible, we will acknowledge them by giving specific positive verbal feedback and bobcat paw stickers. Support and Specials teachers will acknowledge appropriate, consistent behaviors and provide that information to classroom teachers for additional paw stickers.
Each grade level team will establish a guideline for the number of bobcat paws needed to earn specific classroom incentives. Each time a student has completed one Bobcat Paw sheet of 35 paws, the student receives a ticket. Tickets will be displayed weekly in the cafeteria. The last Friday of each month, all ticket earners will be announced on EBN. That afternoon, those student will be rewarded for their good choices. For consistent, inappropriate behaviors, parents will be called in for a conference. If the behaviors continue, a mandatory conference with an administrator will be set up.
