Stamford Green Primary School Magazine 2012
INTRODUCTION
Welcome to our second annual school magazine. I would like to think that we have raised
the standard even higher than last year’s first effort – the children have produced more
reports on events from around the school and we have also branched out to find out a bit
about what some of the children do outside of school. I’m sure a few members of staff will
hurriedly be turning to the interview pages to find out what was written about them (and
how they look in any artwork!) – the children always love creating these reports.
To try and include writing from more of the school’s children we ran a poetry competition so
that children from outside of the club could also get some work into print. We changed our
original plan to only publish winning entries to including those of everybody who entered but
magazine club choose their favourite poem from each year group too.
As with last year, all the art work and photographs have been produced by the children as
well. We have such a talented group of children at Stamford Green and I hope you enjoy
the efforts of those who have contributed.

MR BRIGGS
Mr Briggs is the new caretaker so maybe you should know a
tincey wincey little bit about him. He is really pet friendly
because he has four of them – four cats! Their names are Boo,
Bready, Beans and Lulu.
He is like Mrs Woodcock because they both like pizza!
Mr Briggs really likes hot places - he would love to go to
Menorca.
Mr Briggs thinks we are a very tidy school. I asked him if he has
ever tidied any gross things and he replied, “Yes, I’ve
unblocked loos and cleaned a lot of sick.”
Mr Briggs loves the school. He loves his job!

MRS DRUCE
When Mrs Druce became head the first thing she did was
lots of looking and listening, which helped her decide
which things she should change for the better. Mrs Druce
doesn’t chat all the time with Miss Swann but they are
good at sharing an office. She knew she wanted to be a
teacher at the age of 14 because she thinks children are
fantastic. She used to make her brother play schools. She
loved teaching children writing but her favorite subject to
learn was topic.
Her favourite hobby is kayaking on the sea and she loves
the south coast. Her five favorite iPhone apps are: Angry
Birds, a to do list, Toddler Shapes, Flight Control and BBC
News. The thing Mrs Druce would like is more time for
everybody so life is easier.

MRS DEVEREAUX
The class 5D has a remarkable and very clever teacher who probably knows everything! But
we are all very nosy so wanted to know lots about her life! We found out a lot of interesting
things about her…
She said that her dream job was to be a teacher
and always has been to teach. If she was allowed
anything in the world it would be to go on lots of
travelling, to buy a big house, have a private
swimming pool, and give the rest to Great Ormond
Street Hospital as they do research on illnesses. If she
had 1 billion pounds she would spend it on her own
tropical island and on lots of traveling. Her favourite
food is shepherds pie and anything with chocolate!
She had a job before she taught pupils in schools
and that was at Heathrow airport giving airport
advice. Her least favourite food is cheese! Her idol is
Amy Johnson who was the first woman to fly solo
around the world. Her favourite toys when she was
younger were Cindy dolls and my little pony. She
doesn’t have a favourite celebrity.
Amaani Rana & Emily McLauchlan, 5D
MRS DRYLAND
Mrs Dryland - where do I start? She loves teaching year 1 (well done to you 1DG). She’s
always wanted to be a teacher. The thing she loves about teaching is that there’s
something new every day, apart from maths and English, of course, though she hates PE.
When she was younger her favourite subject was art because you can be creative and do
whatever you want. Personally I agree!
I bet you’re wondering what she does out of school. Well, she’s in an adult choir, book group
and goes swimming. Who knew a teacher could do all sorts of things? Oh and did I mention
she plays the flute beautifully! She loves teaching at this school.
Now who loves Pepe and Annabelle? I know I do. Well if her class gets them she gets
excited for her class. How nice! Now you may know that she used to be at Afters but don’t
worry, she visits them every Friday. So that’s what you need to know about Mrs Dryland.

MISS DURO
On Wednesday 24th January, Amy and Laura Schumacher of classes 6PJ and 4L interviewed
teaching assistant, Miss Duro on her private life! Miss Duro is a teaching assistant in year 3
and 4 and is very helpful with her job - helping children in all subjects! We really enjoyed
interviewing her and her personal life is very interesting! Miss Duro was born in Ghana, West
Africa and has an older sister called Serah. She wishes to teach year 3 because she loves
and enjoys cooking and eating and because her favourite year in primary school was year
3! Miss Duro has always wanted to teach and really enjoys her job at Stamford Green
because she thinks all the children are lovely and she enjoys helping them in all their work!
Before teaching in Stamford Green, Miss Duro was working in a clothing shop called
Monsoon! Her favorite things to do are: cooking, eating, shopping, eating, eating, and more
eating! Her favourite sport was athletics, but now she doesn’t play any sports but does enjoy
dancing! Miss Duro has several
favourite restaurants: Frankie and
Benny’s, Il Ponte and TGI Friday!
Her most embarrassing moment
was in secondary school – she
slipped over on her bottom in the
dining hall in front of everyone!
In conclusion, Miss Duro is an
amazing teaching assistant and if
you ever see her in school, you
should thank her for all her hard
work to make Stamford Green a
better place!

MRS LYTTON
Even though you might think Mrs Lytton is strict she is extremely
nice, so this is just a bit about her! She doesn’t want to be
famous because no famous mister tingles her tongue! She must
have a really bad song taste for nowadays songs because she
likes Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen)! She loves chocolate so she
must just sit around and listen to Bohemian Rhapsody eating
chocolate!
Mrs Lytton must have her cup half empty because she says Mrs
McCarthy’s class is better behaved! But I must be the best
because she said my class (4W) is the best behaved!
I just had to ask but how old do you think she is? Ancient?
Maybe 1000? But no! Much younger than that! 53 - how
amazing is that! In those 53 years she has been here for 17
years! Even though the lovely but also strict Mrs Lytton loves animals she doesn’t have a fluffy
friendly companion! She doesn’t even want a dog! I mean, who wouldn’t?
Mrs Lytton teaches loads of things and one of them is recorders! She said that if she had to
do music evening she would play the recorder - see she is so talented. I found out that her
favourite hobbies are reading and sailing - can you believe it reading and sailing?
Mrs Lytton approves of being a joint teacher she says you get a well-earned rest at the end
of the week. Mrs Lytton loves the homey features of the school.
Mrs Lytton and I hope you enjoyed the interview!

MISS McCOURT
You might know a bit about Miss McCourt but you might not know what I am about to tell
you:
Did you know that Miss McCourt’s pet is Bun Bun?
Miss McCourt has also been working for 4 years at Stamford Green.
Her dream is to own a theme park.
She thinks the best thing about Stamford Green is well-behaved children.
When she was little she wanted to be an air hostess.
She prefers to teach KS1.
The thing Miss McCourt would do to improve the school is to have fun time where we
all dress up as princesses and eat sweets.
That’s all I know and hopefully you will find out more.

MISS HALL
The extremely hard working Miss Hall is our
HLTA, but that’s not all. She travels along to
Twickenham every weekend and practises
cheerleading for two whole hours. When she
gets home the dancing is not all over. She still
needs to practise, practise, practise, practise!
And along with all this amazing talent she can
also play the piano and clarinet and she hasn’t
just started - she has finished all of her grades!
You think that’s all she’s done? Well actually
she dances with a lot of X-Factor contestants
including Olly Murs, Amelia Lily, Mesha B, Jamie Afro and Matt Cardle. Her cheerleading
costumes are green, black and white although they used to be black, red and white. I
asked her if she could change the colour of her costumes then what would she change
them to and she said hat she would change them to orangey colours.
Emily Mclauchlan & Amaani Rana, 5D
MISS McSWEENEY
We asked Miss McSweeney some questions and these are the answers.
1. What do you like about the school? I like the school
because of all the friendly people.
2. Which class do you think is the best behaved class? This
is difficult because all of the classes are full of good
children… 2M.
3. If you could make a difference what would it be? A
really big sport hall and an indoor swimming pool.
4. What did you do before you taught at this school? I
worked at Starbucks.

MISS SWANN
The delightful Miss Swann may seem just like an ordinary teacher BUT (and this is a big but)
there is more to her than that! She can be romantic: “I love Take That and I REALLY want to
marry Robbie Williams” spills Miss Swann.
She also spilled the beans by telling us she has boxes and boxes of shoes, so they’re
probably storing up and waiting until Robbie comes and whisks her away to a luxury
wedding. Dream on Miss Swann! And anyway, Robbie has a girlfriend and they seem very
happy together! Talking of dreams, her wildest dream is to win the lottery! As if!
She is really scared of snakes and one day she fell asleep with her arm round her head. It
went numb and after quite a while she touched it thinking it was a snake. She jumped and
turned on all the lights just in case! Freaky!
Her most embarrassing moment was when she got a really bad nosebleed. It kept bleeding
and bleeding so they rushed her to hospital and when they got there it finally stopped. How
embarrassing! Talking of bleeding, listen to this. On one of her first holidays (age 4) she had
just got there and she jumped in the pool and smacked her chin on the side of the pool.
There was loads of blood and she couldn’t go in the pool for the rest of her holiday!

If she had a choice of the X-Factor, Dancing On Ice or Strictly Come Dancing she would
pick Dancing On Ice because she would learn something new.
Guess what? Her dream house would have a huuuuuge swimming pool. And she’s already
leading part of her dream life - if she had a choice of any job it would be a teacher. Do you
think she’d be good at anything else? Oh, a fortune teller! Hmm, maybe not. Maybe she
should just stick to teaching.
Talking about jobs you need a lunch break, don’t you? I wonder what she has for lunch? Her
favourite food is chips and gravy… yum, yum! If she got stranded on a desert island the
three things she would take there would be an iPhone, food (e.g. chips and gravy) and her
cats. Thank goodness Miss Swann was good at school - what would happen if she wasn’t!?

MRS WOODCOCK
Mrs Woodcock has been at this school for 14 years
and in those 14 years her favorite subject to teach is
maths. Maths? Maths? Is that all she thinks about
because her favorite subject when she was younger
was also maths!
Mrs Woodcock MUST be a busy teacher because in
her whole teaching career she has taught the years
3, 4, 5, 6 and YR! Mrs Woodcock is very talented
because she can speak four different languages
(including English). She can speak French, English
and a little bit of Spanish and German.
You might think asking a person his or her age is
rude but it doesn’t stop me! Mrs Woodcock’s
birthday is actually on January 30th but her actual
age is still unknown! Mrs Woodcock is pretty normal
compared to some of the other teachers when it
comes to food. She likes Italian food (e.g. pizza,
pasta). Mrs Woodcock has taste when it comes to
holidays - her favourite would be Italy and Turkey.
Mrs Woodcock’s memories are really heart-warming. She remembers sitting on her mother’s
lap in front of the fire.

TIMES TABLE OLYMPICS
Mrs Page thought of the Times Tables Olympics where you qualify for
events (100m sprint - 30 minutes practice and 2 points, 110m hurdles -
60 minutes and 5 points and finally the marathon - 240 minutes and
26 points) or try to get medals (either gold, silver or bronze) for
triple jump (2, 5, 10 x tables), 4 x 100m relay (3, 4, 6, 11 x tables), 4 x
400m relay (7, 8, 9, 12 x tables) and finally decathlon (3 to12 x tables).
Bronze: 40 questions in 2 minutes for 5 points (multiplication)
Silver: 50 questions in 3 minutes for 10 points (multiplication and division)
Gold: 100 questions in 5 minutes for 20 points (multiplication and
division)
The class which gets the most points gets Times Table Tigger, a
small cuddly replica of the character from Winnie the Pooh!
Also the house with the most points gets announced in assembly and gets 20 house points
for their house!

VALUES BUTTONS
At the beginning of this year Mrs Devereaux
cleverly came up with the idea of values
buttons.
These have helped lots of children to learn how
to use their values. When a teacher has seen a
child using their values they will give them a
button, which they will put in the values button
box.

YEAR 6: HOUSE CAPTAINS
In year 6 we have the pride and privilege of writing and performing speeches to our house!
We do this to try and win votes from our house to become house captains! If you’re
wondering what and who are house captains, well house captains are year 6 children that
have offered to help and improve the school! Their job is to help and supervise their house
(either Waterloo, Hookfield, Horton or Ashley) and to offer their ideas towards the school!
Each house has two house captains and two vice captains!
Waterloo:
Captains: Tanner McCarthy
Amy Levy
Vice: Christopher Thomson
Amy Schumacher
Ashley:
Captains: Chloe Baker
Matthew Nichols
Vice: James Burton
Katie Osborne
Horton:
Captains: Charlie Horton
Mutsa Dywhilyo
Vice: Kieran Jordan
Mia Chamouret
Hookfield:
Captains: Danielle Kernighan
Daniel Salmon
Vice: Lewis Santos
Sophie Watts
Being a house captain is a very important job that has to be done properly and well! The
whole school relies on the house captains to count up their hard earned house points and
values buttons, so they have to do a great job!
Amy Schumacher, 6PJ
HOUSE POINTS
When I started at this school this year I wondered what the house points were but now I
know. Firstly, I would like to say how you get house points. You get them by doing good
things like answering correct questions or helping people to tidy up. Secondly, there are four
houses that you can be in: Horton, Waterloo, Hookfield, and Ashley.

CELT DAY
In year 3 (personally, I think that it was my third favourite year ever) you have Celt day.
Unsurprisingly, you’re a ‘real deal’ Celt for one whole day! But, if you’re a Celt then where
are the Romans? The Romans (year 6) will invade the Celts very own territory, but the fun
doesn’t stop there. Just before the Romans invade, which is at 2:30, you work your socks off
making your own camp, try to find animals to kill (pictures) and get face paint from your
class teacher. When the Romans come they try, and I mean try, to wreck your camps. But I
remember when I was a Roman - it went horribly wrong. They actually thought that I was a
real Roman and guess what they did? They pelted me with acorns… It hurt!

There was a time when the school was a boring place then, suddenly, Brandon King brought

My two friends Harry and Matthew F managed to make 2111 jumps with a diablo and 144
cats cradles. I however have made the most awesome… FAIL!

THE PRIMARY MATHS CHALLENGE.
Well, everyone thinks that maths is boring, right? Wrong! Some year four, year five and year
six children took part in the Primary Maths Challenge. Bronze, silver and gold certificates
were given to children who got 15 or more in the challenge. If you were unlucky enough to
get lower than 15, don’t worry because they got certificates too! The children who got golds
were Oscar Selby, Tom Davey and Daniel Arnold. Well done to them. The standard was
brilliant. So, next time will YOU join the challenge?

DIAMOND JUBILEE
At school we have done lots of stuff for
the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. We
have made bunting in lots of colours of
the union jack then hung it up outside
the school, it looks brilliant. Also we all
had sausage in a roll, vegetables,
beans and ice cream. As well as that
on sports day on 1st June the whole
school sang two verses of the national
anthem.

YEAR 4’S MAGNIFICENT TIME AT HOOKE COURT
Year 4 had a brilliant time at Hooke court. We did lots of fun activities such as cooking,
writing with a quill, the yummy feast and banquet and lots more. We had a lovely time doing
the class assembly about Hooke Court. We had a wonderful time!
We had lots of fun!
Elize English, 4L
Year 4 came in early to school at 8 o’clock to go to Hooke court!
When we got there 4W went to go to the school room. At the school room, the man taught
us weaving, making pockets and writing with a quill, while 4L went to do some cooking. They
made some royal ginger bread, Hooke Court knot biscuits and custard surprise tarts. In the
afternoon we found out who we were in a room with. I was with Edie, Monica, Ellie, Jenna,
Summer and Charlotte. Our rooms were named - my room was called Bamboo. The other
names were Ivy, Holly, Oak and Beech. On the next day we did boat making. We made
boats out of polystyrene and tested them out on the water, they all floated! On the last day
we did candle making - you dipped the candle in hot wax then quickly dipped in cold
water until it got thicker and thicker. Then we had some lunch. We were all really sad we
knew that we were leaving after this. We went on the coaches - 4W had a really posh
coach it had leather seats, 2 TVs and a toilet. Hope we go again!

ASTRODOME
On Thursday 12th January 2012, year 5 was visited by Astrodome. Everyone was really
excited, and they all dashed into the hall. It wasn’t long until we had our picture taken and
we raced in. Everyone sat inside the dome.
The man who came with the Astrodome (an astrodomian) told us loads! Here’s what we
know about space…
MERCURY
Mercury is not the hottest planet, even though it is the closest to the sun.
VENUS
Venus is actually the hottest planet because it has an atmosphere to lock in heat.
EARTH
Earth is not too hot or too cold (even though we feel cold a lot in England).
MARS
Mars is 60% Earth’s size. If Earth were a marble Mars would be a pea 50m away.
ASTEROID BELT
In-between Mars and Jupiter, the asteroid belt is thought to have been a planet once. It got
crushed!
JUPITER
The biggest planet in the solar system. A gas giant. It could fit 1,300 Earths in it.
SATURN
Saturn is the only planet with clear rings but Uranus has rings too. Also Jupiter and Neptune
may have rings.
URANUS
Another gas giant. Like Saturn it has rings, only this time the rings are on its side.
NEPTUNE
Great! The summer on Neptune lasts 21 years! The only bad thing is that the winter lasts 21
years too.
THE DWARF PLANETS: PLUTO, ERIS AND CERES
Pluto’s orbit crosses Neptune’s so they take turns to be furthest from the Sun. Pluto is smaller
than the Moon.
Eris is a dwarf in the Kelper belt.
Ceres is actually an asteroid in the asteroid belt.
Thank you Astrodome!

PGL
When we got on to the coach we were all greeted by a waft of excitement, there were a
lot of brilliant views and much more. We all had our suitcases packed onto the coach with
our sleeping bags. Our rucksacks, however, were with us. At the moment we saw the sign:
WINDMILL HILL, we all cheered and, with eager eyes, looked out of the window. Finally, we
had got to PGL - it was brilliant! We unpacked our suitcases and went into our dormitories.
The dorms were awesome - there were six beds. There was a wash room, a toilet and two
sinks. After exploring our dorm, we went over to our friend’s dorms.
We went to dinner, which was roast dinner (delicious). For dessert we had apple crumble
with custard and it was really nice. After dinner we were told what activities we were doing
tomorrow. We went up to a high place that was the middle of PGL. We played capture the
flag and we had so much fun and it was very tiring. After that we went back to our dorms
and had a shower. People were playing knock-down-ginger, but we just ignored them.
We went to bed at 10:00pm and we had a brilliant time at PGL. I’m sure you’re going to
have a good time too!

YEAR 4 TRIP TO BLENHEIM DANCE AND GYM SHOW
You might think that we went to watch a boring science show but we went to watch a really
exciting dance and gym show at Blenheim High School! They did back flips and somersaults
while bouncing off trampolines. They went crazy! In some of the dances the boys did back
flips off the stage! And don’t forget the girls. They were brilliant as well with the dances. They
did different dances for different countries. We were all waiting to see which country was
going to be next and when it was London we all shouted out London. Then it was the end
and we all had to go back to school. We all had a great time and hope we go and see it
again!
Tessa Robertson, 4W
PIZZA EXPRESS
In year 3 you get to go to Pizza Express! You have to go to school early and get your coats
and go to the toilet. Then you have to walk there in groups of six, in pairs. Some people were
pleased with who they walked with; some people were not so happy! Everyone was really
excited when we got there.
We opened the door and a warm wave of hot air hit us. When we were making our pizzas,
the Pizza Express people told us about the tomato sauce and what went in it. Then we put
the sauce on to the base. Next we chose our toppings to put on the pizza. Some people
made pictures of things like smiley faces. After that they were cooked in the extremely hot
oven. Our pizzas turned out really nice – nobody’s was bad or burnt!
We went back in our pairs. When we got back to school we all wanted to eat our pizza but
we weren’t allowed. SO UNFAIR!

KEW GARDENS
Just in case you didn’t know, Kew Gardens is a garden. Except it’s really big and it’s in
London. Year 5 (5D and 5V) have recently ventured to the unknown garden and found a
vast dome, but not just any dome. No. It was an extremely hot dome with exotic plants and
lots of other stuff!
In this very hot dome, a towering staircase is formed. This staircase is not just there to look at
though. Oh no. It’s there to climb. We had to climb it! Yes, we had to climb this colossal giant
staircase. We all panted and moaned all the way through it but once we had finally gotten
through it, we found a beautiful view of
banana trees, mango trees and a tree that
reached the ceiling but we don’t know the
name of it. This was definitely worth panting
for. After this Year 5 journeyed to deserts
(Cactus Area), flew above trees (walked
across the tree top walk), battled the fierce
heat (when the weather forecast said that
it was going to be cold it was actually

SCHOOL TRIPS & VISITS
LEGO CITY
Year 4 had Lego City come to school. First we
got into groups then we started building our
houses. We built and built and built until it was
break time but when it was break time we
wanted to go back inside and carry on
building!
Some children built mansions and some
children built smaller houses. It was really fun
because we even had lights in them! We built
trains that could move along a track too and
could go backwards and forwards. Everyone
worked hard (Even Mr Loughin built his own
house!). Everyone enjoyed themselves. We
also built a mansion with a massive garden!
One house filled the table!
After break we started to build (again). After
that the man told us how to build the railways
for the trains to go up and down to carry
things. Some children built big trains so they
could carry a lot of bricks.
At lunchtime the man said our time was up
and we were all sad but 4W had to do it too!

Judo was first included in the summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan in 1964. It has been included
in every Olympic Games since then. The first woman to win a medal at judo was in 1992.

YOUNG CHELSEA BRIDGE CLUB
Outside of school I sometimes go to YCBC which is short for Young Chelsea Bridge Club.
Though there are hardly ever kids apart from me so it’s not that young - I suppose they do
encourage young people so that might be why.
When I play with Peter Taylor, my friend (who isn’t a child), I usually win but I don’t play with
him that often. D’oh! The people at YCBC are very kind.
So is Gordon Reinsfield, our tournament director. A
tournament director is someone who sorts out all the
problems (there are normally a few).
Bridge is a card game. There are 52 cards in a pack
with 4 suits: clubs, diamonds, hearts and spades.
There are numbers 2-10 then, in proceeding order
Jack, Queen, King and Ace, Ace being the highest.
I learned bridge from my Mum and greatly enjoy it.
It is a game for all ages and I highly recommend
learning how to play it.

HOBBIES I LIKE
When I was 4 I started doing kung fu at Alexandra Park. I am currently on grade 7 and I go
with my brother Jack, 4L, and cousin James, 6B. We practice doing our routine mostly every
week and love going. Every year there is a competition held which you can win a bronze,
silver or gold medal!
Kung fu was original made up in China.

DRAMA PRODUCTION: TROUBLE
24 May 2012:
This year drama club are doing Trouble! It is a mixture of Romeo and Juliet and West Side
Story. Two gangs, one youth group a never ending war. As with every year my expectations
are high on quality! Being in the show myself has shown me that everyone has worked really
hard to make everything come together. Singing, dancing and acting will come in to this all-
round production. The show has thrills, spills and love along the way. Everybody is working
really hard to live up to the amazing, talented actors and actresses they are.
5 July 2012:
The drama club’s first performance was today. I asked a few people some questions. Edie
(4W) watched the show.
HR: Why did you enjoy the drama show?
ED: It was full of excitement… not boring, old, plain, re-written stuff.
Elize (4L), who was in drama herself, answered one of my questions.
HR: Was it fun being in choir and why?
EE: Yes, because I love singing and dancing.
I thought that our drama show was a soap with a happy ending. The show has been a
complete success!

CLASS ASSEMBLIES
Every class does a class assembly. They are all amazing and unique.
2M’s island assembly: 2M did an amazing Katie Morag act (Katie Morag acted by Zac
Jervis) about Katie wanting to do an island dance club. There was a great Hawaiian dance
and a surfing dance. It was spectacular!
3M’s cooking assembly: There were lots of fun things in this assembly! There were poems,
songs, and all the food looked lovely! There was special guest Jamie Oliver, too.
6PJ’s Greek assembly: There were Spartan dances, and the Athens took part too! I wonder
what it would be like to be a Greek.
6B’s lessons assembly: 6B told us what they learnt about. There were connective tennis
rounds and a celebrity math game.
5V’s space assembly: 5V’s was really funny. Everyone laughed, especially at Scratchy
Bottom. There were lots of videos and they were so funny. At the end some people did a
dance. They were AMAZING.
2W’s volcano assembly: The volcano dancing was great. They showed us some model
volcanoes that they had made. They could even erupt!
1V’s Diamond Jubilee assembly: 1V showed us a dance from the Eurovision song contest.
5D’s World War Two assembly: We’re speechless, 5D told us all about evacuation, and they
sang some great songs.
3LC’s Tudor assembly: A Tudor play linked with ABBA. Henry VIII and his wives did dances.
RM’s first assembly: RM had an amazing year because in their assembly they told us all
about it.
1DG’s timeline assembly: 1DG sang from different times in history. It was great.
RE’s musical assembly: RE sang songs about what they learnt. Well done!

RECEPTION’S FIRST CHRISTMAS
On Thursday 8 December the reception
children performed to the whole
school. They were very brave - no one
cried (well, a few of the teachers did)!
They were very cute singing all their
songs to us. They all wore little elf
costumes that made them cuter than a
tarsier monkey (a miniature monkey
from the Philippines). Ahh, look it is so
cute!
I think Miss McCourt and Mrs Everett
took a lot of time preparing this special
occasion for the reception parents.
Some children even got to have solos.
Everyone enjoyed watching it.

POETRY COMPETITION
All children in the school could enter the poetry competition run during the summer term. The
children were restricted to a poem that could fit on one piece of A4 paper and were given
the themes of inspiring, happiness, values, achieving, ambition, learning and togetherness.
The magazine club members picked their favourite poem from each year group but every
entry has been printed. The favourite poems have been marked with a yellow rosette, like on

EPSOM & EWELL HIGH
A couple of months ago, some year six children went to Epsom & Ewell High to represent
Stamford Green. They competed against other schools like The Vale and Southfield Park and
made friends with them too. I was there and I played handball (a sort of football and netball
game but mixed together). We won 8-6 and we had loads of fun – we still play it in indoor PE!
Anyway it is an excellent game but that’s not the only thing we did. We were able to do:
football, netball or five a day. Five a day is where you have five fruits and have them all in a
medium sized cup and then you eat it! It is very nice and a lot of the time we were doing
some awesome stuff but the worst thing that we had to do was that we had to tidy up after
ourselves. I hate tidying up, although me and my friend Matthew F were very quick at it.

SPORT RELIEF MILE
On Friday 23 March the whole school did the
Sport Relief Mile. You had to do one mile or
more. If you wanted to you could do it in
fancy dress or hop, skip, jump or run. Some
people did sumo wrestling which was pretty
cool. We raised over £240 pounds for the
charity.

INDOOR ATHLETICS
Some year four children went to indoor athletics at Rosebery school. We did running,
obstacle relay, javelin, long jump, speed bounce and five steps. The people that went were
Oscar, Jake, Jack, Zack, Tibo, Mikey, Summer, Fraser, Kiera, Fajr and Edie and some more
people. There were a lot of schools there too. The event that I enjoyed the most was the
relay. In the relay, Kiera and I came third.

FOOTBALL TEAM
In reception I was rubbish at football but I didn’t stop trying to be the best. In year 1, I joined
a club called Fulham football… I got a bit better at football. In year 2 though, I managed to
score a goal! In year 3, I gave up football and tried tennis, I didn’t survive a single day. In
year 4, I got a little bit better. In year 5, I was very good at it but there are very good
footballers in this school and they’re in the football team: Shay Fitzpatrick, Tom Davey,
George Roberts-Cox, Jamie Maher, Jack Persey, Kieran Jordan, Tanner McCarthy, James
Burton, Ethan Hibbett and Lewis Santos.

SPORTS FOR SCHOOLS
Sports for Schools was setup in
2005 by former Great Britain
Gymnast, Ben Brown. Ben
featured heavily in the Back the
Bid Campaign, which eventually
saw London win as host nation of
the 2012 Olympic Games.
Ben was forced to quit his
passion and dream of
competing at an Olympic
Games due to lack of much
needed funding in his sport. Now
motivated to ensure that this
does not happen to other
potential sporting hopefuls as
well as the desire to inspire
children across the UK to get
involved in a sport, Sports for Schools was created with Fun, Fitness & Inspiration at the heart
of its core values.
Stephanie Gaynor (pictured winning a race) came to Stamford Green Primary School on the
11th June to help us raise money for PE equipment for the school. Unfortunately Year 6 will not
be here to use any of the equipment because we will have moved to secondary school.

EPSOM & EWELL GAMES: SWIMMING
On Wednesday 4 July, four girls and four boys from each year went to the Rainbow Leisure
centre to take part in a mini Olympics swimming gala. First we went to Mrs Druce to sign in
and then we went to get changed. Once we got changed we went to Mrs Druce to have a
team talk.
When we had finished we went to sit down at the end of the swimming pool until it was our
race. First, they did the backstroke races. Then it was the breaststroke races and finally the
freestyle races. Once they were ready, everyone had a chat with Mrs Druce and then we all
got ready to do our relay races. That was the last race, so once we had finished it we went
to get changed back into our school uniform. Then we left the changing room and went to
Mrs Druce to find out our results and sign out but unluckily she didn’t know our results. We had
to wait until the next Wednesday to find out that our school won!
