HOW TO TRIM A DOG’S NAILS

Page 2: How to trim a dog’s nails

STEP 1The first step is to get the supplies you need ready. This means you will need to have a flat surface(table or floor), Nail clippers designed for dog nails, and styptic powder.

* Types of nail clippers: Guillotine and plier type nail clippers.

* Styptic powder: Powder used when the quick is clipped and the nail bleeds. The powder stops the bleeding.

STEP 2• After you have the supplies, you should double check that your clippers are sharp.

• Next, you get the dog on the flat surface (Table or floor).

• Once the dog is on the table you want to have them in a

sternal recumbency position then put into a lateral recumbency

position.

holding the rest of the dogs feet/legs in case they try to get up.

• Check the nails and prepare to cut.

• Then align the nail cutters with the dogs pad, double check and cut.
