Extreme Home Makeover: Environmental Edition Your Challenge: Congratulations, you just won a piece of land right in the heart of LA! Your challenge is to create an eco-‐conscious house, designed on Google SketchUp, which takes into consideration structures that pertain to the following: infrastructure, water, waste management, and energy. This project will take 8 weeks to complete and every week you will gather evidence to influence your design decisions. You will then build a 3D model house on Google SketchUp implementing your design choices. Finally, you will propose your plan to the “city” for approval, giving reasoning for all of your house features. Calendar of Events:

Tracking Sheet Expectation: After each task, you will add data to your tracking sheet to inform your design choices. In the box “What did I learn” you will write a brief description of what you learned from the task. In the box “Rationale for design choice” state your design choice and write how the data from the task influenced your design. Finally, you will modify the house drawing on the back with your design choice.

Hold on to the Water!!!
Challenge: Your house is located on the top of a hill. This is problematic when it comes to capturing “freshwater” to water your garden. Your challenge is to design a water catch system for your house. Your goal is to have the least amount of water runoff collected at the bottom of the hill in the “storm drain” at the end of a rainstorm. You will model this by using the materials below. There will be a bucket placed at the bottom of the hill to simulate the storm drain collecting water. Materials:
