What a wonderful time we have been having at Berkeley Vale Public School. This week we start our NAIDOC celebrations, with a big week planned by our Aboriginal Education Committee. The theme this year is ‘Because Of Her, We Can’ which looks to highlight the contributions and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women across families, community and society. Our NAIDOC Week celebrations will involve all classes writing an Acknowledgement of Country, A poster of hands, NAIDOC Assembly, The Great Book Swap, NAIDOC cupcake stall, The Tuggerah Lakes Learning Community Koori Choir performance and the incursion on Friday by Ryka Ali. Please remember that the cut off for payments for this performance is Wednesday 4/7/18 (this Wednesday). This week we also have two of our Central Coast Dance groups performing at Laycock Street Theatre. We wish them the very best of luck and know they will do exceptionally well as they have spent many hours learning, practising and rehearsing. Congratulation to all of the dancers who performed last week at the Central Coast Dance Festival, you were sensational. Congratulations also to our two Multicultural Public Speakers Gemma Fletcher and Tom Fitzgerald, who attended the finals at Gorokan PS last week. What an exceptional effort from them both, we are so proud of you. Congratulations also to all of our class Public Speaking finalists who so confidently presented their speeches to an audience of approximately 400 students and parents. What a wonderful effort and congratulations to those who were selected to represent our school at the next level. As it is the last week of the term our clubs have finished for Term 2 and I would like to thank the amazing teachers who gave up their time to take a group of students and enrich and develop them further in such an array of activities. Many thanks to Maree Van Der Wielen, Todd Van Epen, Rachael Shultz, Amanda Kenny, Mel Stewart, Sam Michelini, Gemma Bowder, Renee
McConaghy, Vanessa Schumacher, Belinda Lay and Shane Allen. We look forward to what we can offer in term 3. Congratulation to Taj Moore who last week played in the Sydney North Rugby League team in the state finals. This is such an amazing achievement and one that Taj will remember as they came 4th in the state. We are looking forward to hearing more about Taj in the future.

PSSA NETBALL KNOCKOUT COMPETITION Berkeley Vale Public School Netball team played Killarney Vale Public School on Monday 25 June. The girls gained a strong lead in the first quarter and kept up the momentum throughout the game. The mid court player worked hard to push the ball to our shooters. Our shooters displayed amazing teamwork to bring home the goals. The defensive players were unstoppable and rarely let the ball in the opposition goal circle. Our team displayed beautiful sportsmanship throughout the game and
were gracious winners against Killarney Vale with a 29-2 win.
10S RUGBY LEAGUE It was an exciting day at Woy Woy as we got the go ahead to play after two postponements. We played three hard fought games, winning two. We beat Wyong 12 to 6 in a nice display of teamwork. Next, it was Budgewoi, we again played well and
won 18 to 4. Finally, we faced Bateau Bay and were defeated 22 to 0 by the eventual Central Coast champions. It was a day full of highlights, too many to mention them all. But two will live long in my memory. Djharra Annand showed great bravery making a marvellous tackle on an opposition player twice his size. Captain Logan Di-Candilo showing great heart and effort at all times. Big congratulations to the four first time players, who did very well. All boys showed great
sportsmanship and had smiles on their faces at all times. A big thank you to the parents who assisted in any way.
CODE CLUB This term in Code Club Stage 3 children have been developing their critical and creative thinking skills. They have successfully developed the knowledge of block based code using Code.org and Scratch. Students created their own games to control with a MakeyMakey. They have also gained knowledge in symbol based code using Ozobot Bits robotics.
We had an amazing experience this term and I look forward to coding with Stage 2 next term.

PUBLIC SPEAKING Congratulations to all students who participated in the Berkeley Vale Public School Public Speaking Competition. Teachers have been raving about your speeches. Well done! Last week, we held the stage finals of the competition. The following students were successful in representing their class, and wowed us with their wonderful public speaking skills. The competition was fierce and the judges were floored by the quality of the speakers. Well done to the following students who will represent Berkeley Vale at the local finals next
